Hello, Tenno! Today is Top(ic)-less Tuesday!

Your comments need not be related to Warframe; you can post memes, personal stories, or anything else that wouldn't normally fit within the Relevance Rule. We will still be enforcing the Golden Rule in this thread.

The Parasitic Eximus unit needs a rework!

    Posted: 05 Mar 2019 08:40 AM PST

The parasitic eximus is an infested only eximus unit that rapidly drains energy from players around it, even through walls, that's not the main problem, the problem is:

    • The drain is way too fast! (With multiple units present)

    • There is no indication of being drained other than your energy rapidly decreasing!

    • You have no idea where you are being drained from!

    Proposals(and/or):

    • Make the drain slower not stack with every unit present

    • put a link effect (tether) between the unit and the player

    • display a debuff icon in the UI!

Currently the only way to deal with them (without losing all your energy) is powerful AoE damage. (Unless it's an Ancient Healer)

    Edits:

    • Apparently the Energy Leech Eximus is the same, I never noticed. But, extending the suggestions to that as well!

    • Expanding on above point: probably because ELE -s don't spawn as much, not even in an eximus stronghold.

    • A line of sight requirement has been suggested, it makes sense, but it's not my main gripe.

    • An alternative to the tether effect, a simple drain bubble has also been suggested, easier to avoid, but definitely not line of sight abiding!

    • Guaranteed energy drop(s) have also been suggested, but I don't find it necessary, just helpful.

    • Alternatively getting back all or some of the energy lost directly is also good, maybe only if you damaged it.

    • Interesting suggestions: double energy cost or maybe no energy regen/pickup (combined with tether or bubble?)

TO THOSE WHO THINK A SIMPLE BEEP T IS ENOUGH AND THAT THE GAME DOESN'T NEED TO BE MORE "EASY":

I would be fine with that as well, I just want DE to do SOMETHING at least, so I'm giving them many options to chose from.

TO THE BUFF IT AT LEAST IF YOU'RE GOING TO MAKE IT VISIBLE CROWD:

I would be fine with that as well, just tell me where that bastard is so I can send a 200k damage AoE deathray in it's general direction!

PS.:I don't know what else to add, I think I've adressed almost all the suggestions down below, answered the don't make this easy crowd as well as the don't make them irrelevant crowd, my job here is pretty much done, now it's only a matter of DE noticing... oh righ, u/rebulast could you put this on the next Dev Stream? I think I got enough upvotes to warrant some some action...

Loyalty is a neat mechanic that doesn't take much time, and incentivizes me to give a fuck about my furball (not that that's hard, I love the guy.) My main issue with the system is having to go through so much trouble when swapping pets. Maybe I was just playing nidus with my infested puppo, and now I wanna get my janky kavat out. I have to put infesto in stasis, then take jank-kitty out of stasis, and then reequip them to the warframe I want. For reference, sentinels can just be equipped freely. As needed, and they STAY equipped on the warframes just like guns. I would appreciate a similar system for pets, but of course having multiple pets out ALL degrading would be ridiculous. Just wish the system had better qol changes.

    Numbers & Nightwave

    Posted: 05 Mar 2019 11:52 AM PST

Recently, DE released a new change to the game which completely removed the previous Alert system and implemented an entirely new system called Nightwave. Since then, both parts of the vocal minority have been split between appreciating the implementation or hating it entirely. Some have recommended adding small changes here and there to better Nightwave, but some still want it gone with the old Alert system taking its place.

Personally, I don't understand why so many players want to see the system removed when concerning rewards alone. I want to point out some simple math that supports my view on this and you're free to correct me where I'm wrong.

I want to first start off by talking about what rewards you can actually obtain through Nightwave, or more specifically, the Wolf of Saturn Six. Please look below for some quick stats.

    • 40% of the rewards offered through the current Nightwave series are cosmetic. This includes sigils, glyphs, emblems, emotes, syandanas, armor, captura scenes and k-drive cosmetics. When DE revealed Nightwave to us through the roadmap a few devstreams ago, they talk about how most of Nightwave was intended to be cosmetic-based. To simplify the 40%, 12 of the 30 items offered through the reward track are cosmetic.

    • 20% of the rewards offered through the current Nightwave series are Wolf Creds. Wolf Creds give access to items obtained from the previous Alert system. Nitain Extract is offered in groups of 5 instead of the previous 1 earned from alerts. A few new cosmetics are also offered through this system. This is not counting the Wolf Creds earned for prestiging in the system. It's also worth noting that once the current Nightwave ends, all players will lose all of their Wolf Creds.

    • 20% of the rewards offered through the current Nightwave series are offered from other places in the game without purchasing them. Forma can be obtained from playing relic missions (among other places). Kuva can be earned for playing Kuva missions. Orokin Catalysts can be obtained from Invasions, Gifts of the Lotus and Sorties. Arcanes can be earned from hunting Eidolons.

    • 13% of the rewards offered through the current Nightwave series are items that change gameplay or significantly give you a boost during gameplay. Umbral Forma is an obvious one, but I've also included the new augments that may bring those old weapons out of the closet.

With that in the air, you're probably noting that a lot of these rewards are on a track. This means you have to reach a certain point to obtain something you want, even if you don't want the items before it. I want to discuss a little math on that as well. Please look below for some quick stats.

    • You only need 30k standing a week to finish the entire reward track by the end of the 10 weeks. Finishing the reward track takes 300k. Simple math.

    • You have access to 43k standing a week (which includes the dailies for the week). This means you can skip over two Elite Weeklys and one Weekly a week if you're just interested in finishing the track. You could also skip 4 Weeklys instead if you wanted to. There's a lot of choice to be made if you're only interested in finishing the track.

    • If you're a new player only interested in Wolf Cred, you only need 240k standing throughout the entire run to reach the last Wolf Cred reward on the reward track. That means you only need to make 24k standing a week! This means you can skip over all Elite Weeklys and 1 Weekly every week, or whatever combination fits your goals. This will grant you 300 Wolf Creds. This is also ignoring the prestige system.

    • If you're a new player only interested in the slots that weren't offered previously, you only need 80k standing! This means you only need to make 8k standing a week to reach this goal. This can be done with several combinations, so I'll leave this example open. It's important to note that you'll also obtain 2 rewards of 50 Wolf Creds for going down this route.

    • All of this is overlooking the extra standing that can be gained from killing the units that randomly spawn in missions. You get 150 Standing for killing all three, but it's possible to get more than one pack to spawn per mission. According to DE, the spawn rate for these units and Wolf will increase as the series goes on. Although not confirmed, it's possible that DE may add in other methods to obtain standing as the series continues towards the end.

Finally, I wanted to discuss some other stats and worries over the Wolf Cred system. This is where I can understand some of the fear and trouble, but I still don't think this is absolutely horrible. Please look below for some quick stats.

    • If you obtain all 300 Wolf Creds offered through the reward track alone and spent it all on Nitain Extract offerings, you'd be able to obtain 100 Nitain Extract. Each bundle gives 5 Nitain Extract and costs 15 Wolf Cred a piece. If you only obtain 100 Wolf Cred through the series, you can still purchase 30 Nitain Extract if you bought nothing but Nitain Extract.

    • Going off this list, you only need 123 Nitain Extract to obtain everything that isn't a cosmetic and costs Nitain Extract. This does not include clan research. If you have 100 Nitain Extract, you'll be able to complete 81% of these items. If you have 30 Nitain Extract, you'll be able to complete 24% of these items. This is all within the 10 week period that is the first series of Nightwave.

    • If you include clan research and cosmetics, you need 190 Nitain Extract to complete every single item. This means that with 100 Nitain Extract, you can complete 53% of the items in the game that require Nitain Extract. If you can only get 30 Nitain Extract, you can make 16% of the items that cost Nitain Extract.

    • The amount of Mastery Rank obtained from items that cost Nitain Extract to craft is 141k. The total amount of mastery you can obtain (minus exclusives) is 1,543,627. It's important to note that there's a lot of items that are now exclusive and also require Nitain Extract. This means they're included in the 141k but they're not included in the total Mastery you can obtain. Using this list, one can discover that you can reach Mastery Rank 23 without leveling any currently exclusive items or any items that cost Nitain Extract. Items that cost Nitain (even if exclusive) only add up to 9% of the total mastery that can be obtained without exclusives.

    • 54% of items currently offered through Wolf Cred are cosmetic. Generally everything offered would be considered low priority for newer players outside of 2-3 different auras which would cost 40-60 Wolf Creds total.

    • The amount of Mastery Rank obtained from items that must be bought with Wolf Cred is 33k. When added to the Mastery Rank given from items that cost Nitain Extract to craft, you're looking at a total of 174k. That's still only 11% of the total Mastery Rank that can be obtained without exclusives when the Nitain Extract list contains exclusives. Players who don't craft items that come from Wolf Creds or items that cost Nitain Extract can still reach Mastery Rank 23 by crafting other items that aren't exclusive.

I just wanted to put a few numbers out there so people can discuss with a clear mind how hard things are to obtain and how important they actually are (to new players). If I've made a mistake somewhere, feel free to let me know so I can add it in. Thanks for taking the time to listen!

DE Please, listen to the feedback. Tone down Nightwave, don't let it dominate the game.

    Posted: 05 Mar 2019 04:24 AM PST

I know it's only week 2, I know we haven't seen much opportunity to change the brand new system. But as it is, Nightwave sucks.

I don't like to be mean, or even blunt like this, but I love Warframe and Nightwave is very quickly turning into a huge time sink and an absolute fun-destroying aspect of the game.

Since it's release, there have been very few positive threads or even comments about Nightwave and I'm really just sitting here with my fingers crossed hoping its gets fixed. Not changed, fixed.

    1. Nightwave has replaced alerts.

This seemed positive for me initially, rewards are now more stable. Each week we have a set of helmets and mods to choose from, as well as consistent Nitain, Vauban and potatos if nothing takes your fancy. HOWEVER; Wolf Creds are gained far too slowly, if a couple of things you want show up in the one week you're screwed. New players lose out on the slow addition of free helmets that alerts would bring, allowing a little customisation without monetary investment that many new players seem to enjoy. Instead they're cornered into spending most of their points on necessities like Nitain to build many frames. Some of the rewards are still double locked; "Oh boy I just bought a Nezha/Inaros helmet blueprint with the wolf creds it took me 2 weeks to earn, I'll enjoy crafting that a month from now when I can buy enough nitain for it!" Previously alerts did similar, however you weren't forced to choose one reward or the other, it was just a matter of being online at lucky times.

    2. Alerts were the most basic form of quest for newbies, now the new system shuts them out.

New players suffer greatly from the new Nightwave system. On top of rewards being a huge grind instead of single mission-reward interactions, the new miniboss, the Wolf, is more likely to hit and run new players than be an interesting aspect of the game. The challenges are incredibly difficult, such as 1 hour in kuva survival without life support. We had a MR6 in our party on my first attempt today, and his struggles to navigate the fortress and keep up with the kuva towers split the enemy spawns so much that our run ended at 20 minutes. He doesn't know any better, this is just a regular weekly mission thing now. Many of these "elite" challenges require game modes that demand maxed out gear, optimised builds, hell even just access to augments and game modes that early-mid players simply don't have, yet on the other side you have vets sitting in a 60 minute mission watching netflix because the "challenge" is so fucking dull. It's awful. Nothing is more demoralising to new players than having rewards dangled in their face and no reasonable way to get to them without being completely taxid and babysat week in and week out.

    3. Rehashing old content to an insane degree.

Where some dailies/weeklies are too hard for new players, DE has completely ignored the fact that 90% of their playerbase is being forced into completely unrewarding, dated content.

Almost everyone I've communicated with playing these missions on public is saying the same thing.

"Fuck Cetus bounties. I don't need ANYTHING from these." Ok, you want people doing bounties? Make it 3 for the weekly so it can be done in around 30 minutes. Not 8 that takes well over an hour with forced time gates of "liberate the camp" and "protect the vault." Most of us are done with that, we grinded when the plains came out, we grinded ghouls, plague star, unvaultings. Stop forcing us to grind bounties that reward us with 0 for a percent of a percent of progression to maybe rewards in the Nightwave system.

"Why do we need to do 9 invasions, that's so excessive." Sure, a new player might be like "ok, invasions isn't something I do a lot of, here's a motivator to do some." A vet however gets stuck in 9 missions. They get their thousandth Fieldron on a pile, a stock of a gun they build 3 years ago, literally nothing for 1-2 hours of grinding, again, just to build up this time-sink of a system. It cannot have not been considered to make it 3 invasions, ONE full invasion with a reward is plenty of time, and a reminder of that content. Not 9.

Last week's challenges were a FUCKTONNE of missions where a majority of us got 0 out of it and were left standing there with our dicks in hands, questioning "wait, so is that it?" Most of us never saw the new mini boss. Most of us got one wolf cred drop only to realise the only rewards we're looking for are 10 weeks away. A lot of people tried to argue it would be less tedious if we broke up the missions, so what do we get this week? 2 60 minute quests that have to be done in one sitting. A tedious, unrewarding, middle finger from the devs who have themselves said that they know something like that IS NOT ENJOYABLE AT ALL.

If this is going to be the new standard method of daily/weekly grinds, it needs to be toned down a tonne. It's been LESS THAN A WEEK and people are already saying how burnt out they are on the grind of Nightwave, how much it drowns out any content they want to do because a timer's ticking down on how long they have to complete this shit.

Don't let Nightwave force players to invest too much time, or you will find players dropping the game entirely. It's completely against what makes Warframe great, the self-managed goals, the endless options, and instead narrows you down to a few very dull options that burn you out faster than ever before. Nightwave should take a permanent backseat, be quests that can be done in relatively regular playstyle, or at least take an hour or two out of what the player chooses to spend their time on, it shouldn't be the new permanent "check Nightwave to see how I'm playing today."

Suggestion: Have those 60 minute required Nightwave missions be accumulated time. Not all in one sitting.

    Posted: 05 Mar 2019 08:38 PM PST

DE needs to implement this change immediately with all the host connection trolling issues and this way it appeases both veteran players and newcomers. If you want to do it all in one sitting then you can, but for those who cant can work at it little by little.

I love this game too much.

    Posted: 05 Mar 2019 07:47 PM PST

I've played Warframe on and off for half a decade now. This game was a safe haven during a rough period of my life. It was an escape, where I could numb my mind grinding for whatever and talk to a few friends.

My PS4 broke down so I took a hiatus for a while. I climbed out of my depression. got a few hobbies, made some irl friends. I was in a good spot.

I came back to the game on PC around a month ago, and I loved it as much as ever. It sucked me right in, and that's the problem. Warframe is still a mind-numbing escape, only I don't need that anymore. I have an actual life now and this game has been eating into my other hobbies and time commitments. I can't play the game for hours on end like I want to (and used to). Nightwave has just made me want to play the game even more.

So, it is with a touch of nostalgia that I say goodbye. It's time to move on I guess. I want to thank DE and the Warframe community for being such a lovely group of people. I hold onto a lot of positive memories that this game gave me.

    Farewell, Tenno.
