The true effectiveness of adaptation (almost never truly 90%)

    Posted: 31 Jul 2019 09:36 AM PDT

The true effectiveness of adaptation (almost never truly 90%)

For people that may not know, adaptation has two weaknesses.

    1. It only will affect an enemy's main damage type. This changes of course if you have multiple enemy types with different damage distributions shooting at you, but that requires many more graphs to illustrate all cases.
    2. It is not a flat 90% multiplicative damage reduction like most abilities are. It is supposedly subtracted from your health and shield type modifiers.

The problem then with quantifying how effective adaptation is, depends on what enemy is shooting at you and what the damage distribution that enemy possesses. This should not be too difficult, however, it turns out that some enemies carry modified versions of our weapons with different damage distributions. The only way that I know of to figure out damages for these enemies is to use combinations of adaptation and aviator to see how much damage they deal to your shield. From there you can solve the equations and determine the damage distribution. This won't be 100% accurate since values are rounded, but damage quantization can help to get the right distribution. Using the highest level enemy possible will also help with the rounding issues. This has worked in most cases for me, however rarely quantization would change the distribution to the wrong proportions, so I am unsure if damage to players is quantized. For example the correct distribution for an Arid Heavy Gunner is I-35% P-12.5% S-52.5%, rounding to the nearest 16th of total damage will give us I-37.5% P-12.5% S-50% which was giving me incorrect final damages.

    How Adaptation really works

While trying to figure out some enemy damage distributions I was noticing strange inconsistencies specifically with adaptation on impact and puncture weapons. After some poking around I discovered that you do not simply subtract 0.9 from your shield/hp modifiers. Instead you do (modifier-modifier*0.9). That is not all though, since if the modifier is above 1 the number that multiplies 0.9 will instead be the corresponding health or shield modifier for that same damage type. For example, impact has a 1.5x modifier for shields and a 0.75x modifier for health. The new impact shield modifier will then be 1.5 - 0.75 * 0.9 = 0.825x. This rule for adaptation does NOT apply for mods like aviator or agility drift which are just subtracted normally. Another example is puncture which has a 0.8x multiplier on shields and 1x on health. Since 0.8x is less than 1, we can simply use the shield modifier giving us 0.8 - 0.9 * 0.8 = 0.08x.

Another difficulty in determining effectiveness of adaptation is the variability. There are so many different cases for different enemies that I cannot show all of them. Obviously it can become difficult to upkeep your damage reduction, and once you lose your stack you will be extremely vulnerable. Furthermore, different factions generally have weapons that focus on certain damage types and you will rarely be able to get full damage reduction from all three IPS types. This is why I will only show the resistance for the most present damage types for each faction. You can think of this as a best case scenario.

The following graphs will show the effective damage reduction that adaptation alone will give you. Adaptation becomes more or less effective depending on how much armor you have, which is why the damage reduction is plotted against armor value. This is because the more armor you have, the more important it is to reduce puncture damage since it ignores 50% of your armor. Conversely, the more armor you have, the less important it is to reduce impact and slash because of their neutral or bad modifiers versus our armor.

    CORPUS

    https://i.redd.it/r7bs6g3dknd31.png

The corpus mostly only have puncture weapons, so that is the only resistance I applied. Despite this, adaptation still works best against corpus enemies. I have only found one enemy that has slash majority, but that enemy is exclusive to the Jupiter tileset.

    GRINEER

    https://i.redd.it/82eqgz1eknd31.png

The grineer have weapons that are both impact and slash based.

    CORRUPTED

    https://i.redd.it/621f22vfknd31.png

The corrupted have puncture and impact weapons.

    INFESTED

Adaptation is generally unreliable because of low attack speed, so I won't cover it. However, I believe most infested have single damage types for their attacks, so adaptation would fare decently well. For example, vs purely impact attacks adaptation will give 45% DR to shields and 90% DR to health.

    Shield Damage Reduction

    https://i.redd.it/hm20s8mhknd31.png

This follows the same rules as before, but I just put it all on one graph because it is not too crowded.

    Enemy Damage Distributions

    https://i.redd.it/h3ia18kpknd31.png

    Misc findings/observations

    • The worst performance I found was versus the Elite Lancer's Hind. When just reducing the main damage type, adaptation only reduced shield damage by 22% and only reduced health damage by between 18% and 24%.
    • Adaptation does not reduce slash procs anymore (I believe it used to).
    • In-air damage resistance mods do still reduce slash proc damage.
    • Enemy slash procs deal 10% of their base damage per tick compared to our 35%.

Is Aviator a good complement to Adaptation?

At max charge, using aviator can significantly boost your DR. It can also help while trying to charge up adaptation. The downside is enemies will have more trouble hitting you, making it harder to keep up the damage reduction.

    Adaptation + Aviator

Using Agility Drift and Aviator will also give a decent boost DR.

Not all Gorgons are created equal

Another reason why this is so tedious is that sometimes even enemy guns of the same type don't carry the same stats! This is clear when you spawn a heavy gunner which does primarily impact and then you spawn in an arid heavy gunner which deals primarily slash and has 32.8% higher damage. With that being said, I cannot guarantee the accuracy of these numbers for every enemy type carrying the same weapons as I have not tested them all.

    Download

Here is the link to the excel sheet if you want. I will warn you that I do not have very clear labels and there are stray numbers lying around from ingame tests. This was not meant so much to be a tool when I was making it, but I will provide it if you want to check formulas or something.

    https://drive.google.com/file/d/11SteiOH5aaD7yHDETuf7queNJJHeEsuO/view?usp=sharing

If you convert it to a google sheet, I am not sure if the graphs will work.

The only things you should need to change are in green in this image:

    https://i.redd.it/lxxo2a940od31.png

Changing the enemy level or how much armor you have will only change the results on the sheet that show how much damage the enemy would deal to you.

Also on the "Graphs" sheet you can change the values for adaptation or in-air resistance. You can also choose if you want to apply aviator to the graphs. You can also apply total resistance to all damage types to be shown on the graph:

DE again, Wukong deluxe syandana mismatch.

Here we are again, another new item, and again it's mismatched. Not only should materials be a closer range so other items can be used more freely, but when you release a skin & syandana together the very least that should happen is a 100% match when you click "copy warframe colors". Yet these aren't even close.

It's constantly... Targis, Imugi, Carrier Prime, etc. Please, for the love of Umbra \DE please make materials and color areas match*. I'm begging now. It should be like breathing for a community so enthralled with fashion.*

    Optimizations:

    • Improved handling of corrupt shader caches.
    • Fixed a crash when processing a HUD buff icon.

    Colour Picker Changes:

    image

We have released substantial improvements to the Colour Customization of Warframe!

    1. You can now view your Palettes in a redesigned screen that allows for more convenient browsing of your options. The old single-column design took a long time to scroll, and the new two-column cleaner design is much more streamlined.
    2. Random colour now chooses across multiple palettes!
    3. Any Legacy colours cannot be saved as favourite - this is to fix a bug that would prevent any and all customization saving.
    4. +5 new 'Favourite' Colour slots!
    5. Added new 'drag' functionality to the Favourites grid so you can move colour around!
    6. Added focus sound to swatch grid, and select sound when toggling favorites!

    Revenant Fixes:

    • Fixed Armored enemies affected by Revenant's Danse Macabre continuing to take Corrosive Damage after the Armor has gone, resulting in less damage because Flesh is stronger to Corrosive than Armor is.
    • Fixed Revenant's Danse Macabre doing Corrosive Damage to Infested.
    • Fixed not being able to perform finishers on blinded enemies from Revenant's Enthrall that are temporary allies (mind control, etc).

    Nightwave Fix:

    • Fixed previous Acts being visually marked as 'Complete' if the same Act was complete in Series 1. These Acts were also counting towards the 3 Recovered Acts, which prevented other eligible Recovered Acts if you had 3 of these affected Recovered Acts.

    General Changes:

    • You can now Transfer to the Operator while Fishing / Conservation.
    • Upgrading a Relic while in a Void Fissure endless mission will now ask you if you wish to equip the upgraded Relic.
    • Any summoned allied Specters in a Nightmare mission will now have a reddish distorted glow to indicate that they have turned against you and you've made a huge mistake in trusting them.
    • Your chosen UI Theme is now applied to the Riven reroll screen!
    • Adjusted the holster position of Warfans, Polearms, Scythes and Staffs on Zephyr Prime.
    • Adjusted the Holster position of Sword and Shields on multiple Warframes so it is attached and rotated correctly.
    • Adjusted the default holster position of the Lenz Quiver so it sits closer to Warframe's backs.
    • Adjusted the Emblem offset on the Helminth Charger, Drahk Pattern, and Underbrush Pattern Kubrows to fix them disappearing completely.

    Fixes:

    • Fixed a functionality loss when attempting to purchase Riven capacity via the Riven Slot purchase pop up prompt.
    • Fixed inability to redeploy your Arch-Gun after mounting / dismounting your K-Drive.
    • Fixed broken functionality if the Ferrox is the only weapon equipped and you pick up Ammo while it's been thrown.

It’s time to address the Elephant in the room Alad V

    Posted: 31 Jul 2019 03:12 PM PDT

You have an unhealthy obsession with female Warframes. It started with Mag, you kidnapped her, strapped her down, and attempted to sell her. We blame you for most of her nerfs.

Then there was Valkyr. The experiments, the torture. The poor rage kitty never got over. Although she never really gets over anything, just gets angrier.

Let's not forget Mesa, whom you strapped an infested color to and made her go all Deadeye on her own family.

And now you expect us the believe that it's a coincidence that Wisp's parts drop from the Ropalyst boss fight, a boss fight that you so happened to be involved with.

We see what you're up to Alad, stay away from our frames.

Revenant worse now after Update 25.5.0 + Bugs

    Posted: 31 Jul 2019 03:38 PM PDT

So after I read the patch notes I was pretty worried for Revenant because the only Infested enemies you generally care about are the Ancients, Disruptors, Boilers and maybe Swarm Moas which are all Fossilized to which corrosive deals 75% extra damage .

Only after the Ancients are gone does your Danse Macabre actually do anything significant against the other enemies around so its a significant downgrade. Also the other flesh type enemies have so little health compared to the Big Boyz like Boilers and Ancients that the extra damage does not even matter.

Additionally a Toxic Ancient produces an aura to its allies that provides 100% damage reduction to Toxin and 80% damage reduction to Gas, neutralizing this element against the Infested while the aura is in effect.

And against Grineer it is a non-change because if 100% armor is stripped before the enemie dies you have bigger problems to worry about than the damagetypes on the last 3% remaining health.

Ok so I jumped into the Simulacrum to test it out and as expected a group of 165 Boilers took about 4 times as long as a group of Heavy Gunners or Corpus Tech's. And lets not even talk about Ancients. They take an eternity though, I know, they are also designed to counter abilities.

Also I found a Bug(?) where not ONCE when I tested on fossilized enemies did it proc gas or corrosive or anything. So clearly something is wonky there. It procced fine against the small enemies that have the fleshy health. Now I thought ok maybe it is still Corrosive against them but then the proc symbol on the healthbar should have appeared as it did when I threw a corrosive pox at them.

Also against Corpus after the shields got stripped: no gasprocs in sight. Magnetic worked fine still.

Same against the armored Grineer after the Armor was stripped. No Gasclouds. I stripped a whole group with a lowpowered Pox to test it and at 40% chance per beam there should definitely have been a lot of gas. Danse still did proc corrosive on them though but did not switch.

TLDR: Not only was the intention behind the Change misguided and lowered his powerlevel against Infested significantly it also does not work correctly on a basic level by not proccing the gas.

    Energy leech rework suggestion

    Posted: 31 Jul 2019 12:56 PM PDT

Currently everyone hates how energy leech eximus enemies affect gameplay of warframe in general, with mechanic of punishing a player by draining energy by being near players and gameplay-wise being lazily designed. Best way to fix this problem is by,instead of draining energy by only being near players,to make them drain energy on physical/meele attacks and make them faster, like REALLY faster in both running and attacking speed. This would also work since this would change their role to unique distraction, rather than cheap handicap, and would work well since all of energy leech/parasitic eximus enemies use meele weapons.
