Theory: The Arbiters are a Sentient

    Posted: 13 Oct 2019 11:46 AM PDT

Grinding captura scenes from these guys, so I'm spending a lot of time getting to know them. I'll discuss four main points that lend some credence to this theory and throw in other stuff I've noticed.

    • The Arbiters as a group.

    • Octavia's quest. (And their lack of one.)

    • Arbitrations themselves.

    • Something weird between the helmets and the drones.

    • Miscellaneous observations.

    The Arbiters as a group.

The Arbiters of Hexis exemplify a burning passion to search for the truth of Tenno ability, composed with the knowledge that Tenno are far greater than even their shattered history suggests.

That sounds suspicious to me. What do the Arbiters know that they're refusing to share? Wouldn't it go against their purported goal to help the Tenno rise above their created purpose? Maybe they're searching for knowledge, but only for themselves.

We don't know who their leader is.

As in, we don't have a name. We talk to the guy on the tallest podium. Additionally, all the other syndicate rooms show some individuality from the syndicate members-- Steel Meridian has plant dude and Clem, obviously. Perrin has MOA dude. Veil has the group torturing the Grineer. Suda has Tiny Suda, but Suda is a Cephalon and her syndicate room merges into a Datascape so she's disqualified. Loka has their operatives looking stoned under waterfalls.

Arbiters sit still and all of them are completely focused on you. You don't turn your Medallions in to an Arbiter, but to an operative. (Perrin is another outlier here, as they have you turning in your Medallions to an operative in Perrin gear but Loka-like coloring.)

    Octavia's Quest

Spoilers, obviously. Suda is consumed, however momentarily, by Hunhow. Simaris, Ordis, and the Tenno help to forcibly evict him. Why don't the Arbiters help their ally? Because it's not their business, because they aren't welcome in the Datascape, or because they know if they show their hand Hunhow will recognize them?

I could argue that they might just not have known, but they're nosy and know if you've missed a single node in the starmap. There's no way they don't know what's going on right next door to their closest Syndicate ally.

    They don't have a quest!

So it's going to be a doozy that reveals their true status as a rogue Sentient, right? Personally, I'd love for us to kick off The New War by getting some Sentient allies of our own. That's just me.

    Arbitrations themselves.

Let's talk about Alad V for a hot moment. He's partnering with a Sentient to create Amalgams with the ability to surpass the Tenno: ultimate weapons that even the Orokin failed to produce in their self-imposed arms race! Let's stop talking about Alad V.

Sentients already have the ability to disrupt Tenno abilities and adapt to damage. The Arbiters have gone a step further, and have figured out a way to take a Tenno out of the fight indefinitely (or until extraction): Arbitrations. Arbitrations are a pilot program, and Tenno are the participants. By weeding out less-experienced Tenno, they can fine-tune their tactics against master Sentient-killers.

    Arbitration Drones.

They look like the Arbiter helmets. We already know that Sentients can take many different forms, from the towering Ropalolyst to the tiny and adorable Vomvalyst. It's entirely possible the drones are a little more than drones; fragments of the main Sentient.

What is Vitus Essence, anyway? It looks really similar to a Sentient Core. Tenno are then asked to trade Vitus back to the syndicate in return for trinkets and mods (one of which purposefully lowers your power strength)-- and unquestioningly, we do.

    Arbitration Rewards

Arcanes. Where else do we get arcanes, apart from kitgun arcanes? Sentients! Or those who deal with Sentients; Onkko, Hok (or Hok gets them from Onkko). Arcanes are also somewhat similar to the Sentient ability to adapt; except instead of getting resistance, we get other goodies.

    Also, Adaptation.

    Miscellaneous Observations

    The Truth sigil

I like to fashionframe and this means playing with sigils. I flipped the Truth sigil upside down; this looks like a Sentient.

Truth, honor and rising above purpose.

Most of the Sentients we have the privilege of talking to are fixated on it. True selves; true vision; true purpose. True love, in the case of one.

These all give me reason to believe that the Arbiters are a Sentient that somehow managed to slip the shackles of the Orokin and post up in Origin, biding their time to either turn on the Tenno when the time comes or help them with the most realistic bootcamp in existence.

    The C O N C L A V E

Logically, if they're both remnants (or disciples) of The Old War, the Arbiters and Teshin might be allies or at least talk about each other. Teshin loves to talk, I'm sure he would have said something about them by now!

Either their philosophies are so far apart they can't bear to mention each other, they're too distant, or the Arbiters don't want to attract the attention of someone who can recognize what they are and probably immediately call them out on it.

    Vitus Essence again

Let's revisit the Second Dream for a moment. "Sever their heads, yet they rise again. Someone has hidden the Tenno essence, their truth, from you."

Essence? Truth? Where have we heard that before?

...of course, they might just be a dogmatic, mysterious secret society dedicated to helping the Tenno reach their true potential.

This isn't really comprehensive and contains a fair amount of speculation. Feel free to rip this to shreds or add on! I'm just doing this for fun while waiting for my Dethcube to finish building.

DE, Please add something to let us know which arcane we have equipped in the trade screen.

    Posted: 13 Oct 2019 11:55 PM PDT

    Title.

A lot of times when I'm going to sell a rank 3 arcane to make some plat (let's say Arcane Guardian), I will have 2 of them show up in the item selection screen for trading (the one I'm using and the one I'm selling), but not a single hint of which is the one I have equipped on almost all of my loadouts. Most of the time I end up selling the one I have equipped cause I just choose one randomly, having to re-equip it multiple times. This is just a nice and little QoL change, having something to let us know from this trade screen so that you don't accidentally sell the one you're using.

    Thanks.

Dear DE, Can we have Something Similar to Destinys 2's Lore Books, or atleast more codex entries.

    Posted: 13 Oct 2019 01:44 PM PDT

I understand that we have the codex and memory fragments, but I think that having some lore to discuss between content drops would be a very nice addition. (for a more warframe-ish example look at the orokitties which tell the story of the grineer queens)

Oberon players, has anyone else found that renewal is deactivating and not removing the hud icon?

    Posted: 13 Oct 2019 09:38 PM PDT

Recently I was doing long disruption grinds for Gauss, and kept noticing that my (phoenix) renewal is randomly stops working. I have the active ability pulsating indicator, and the 107 renewal icon on my buff bar, but the healing has stopped and the instant-revive doesn't trigger.

I might be getting too close to demoylsts and getting nullified, but even if that is the case I still am having an issue where getting my abilities are getting deactivated and not updating the hud.

    How To: Disruption

    Posted: 13 Oct 2019 11:24 PM PDT

I had trouble at first figuring out how best to play Disruption; this game mode doesn't hold your hand much, and it can be hard to figure out what to do. Had a match tonight with players who apparently are having the same issue 😬 and decided I would vent via copious documentation.

What's going on: Disruption is an endless round-based game mode. Each round, four conduits will spawn. Enemies have a chance to drop a conduit key when killed. Placing the key in the matching conduit starts a defense event for that conduit; it activates a random buff or debuff, starts a 2 minute countdown, and spawns a demo unit somewhere nearby. If the demo unit gets to the conduit, it blows itself up and destroys the conduit, and you fail the event. If someone kills the demo unit, or the timer expires before the demo unit gets to the conduit, then you succeed at the event. A round is complete when all four conduit events have completed. If all four were failed, you lose the mission and forfeit all rewards; otherwise, you get a reward and another round begins. You get better rewards for not failing any defense events, and you get better rewards in each successive round. You can extract anytime after completing round 1.

Notes: * The conduits are listed on the left side of the screen. A when someone picks up a key, the conduit which matches that key lights up for everyone on the team, so you can see if someone's about to start a conduit. * Demo units make a characteristic ticking sound. The sound starts playing when you move into a tile which is connected to the tile they are on, and gets louder as they get closer. * Demo units are marked by a subtle red ripple effect. This effect plays every 10 or 20 seconds when you're on the same tile as the demo unit, or an adjacent tile. If you're on an adjacent tile, the ripple marks the door which leads to the demo unit. It always plays right away when you move into an adjacent tile. * As long as someone on your team can see the demo unit, it gets marked with a red enemy marker for everyone on the team. * Demo units are immune to many crowd control effects; they can't be confused, knocked back, knocked down, disarmed, stunned, or suspended. They can be slowed, put to sleep, and blocked by solid barriers. * Demo units also generate a nullifier pulse every few seconds. This will purge any status effects generated by warframe abilities. * The best ways to stall a demo unit are: Magus Lockdown, Cobra & Crane's sleep effect, and repeated application of Cold procs.

What not to do: * Don't stand on the conduit and wait for the demo to come to you. They have lots of health, and damage reduction. You won't be able to kill them before they explode. * Don't start a conduit if one is already running. Let the current one finish first.

What to do: 1. If no conduit is running, your job is to find a key and start a conduit. 1a. Kill things and look for keys to drop. If a key drops, grab it and head for the matching conduit. 1b. Also, watch the conduit list. If you see a conduit light up, that means someone picked up a key. They're probably going to start that conduit soon; go to that conduit now. 2. When a conduit starts, your job is to find and kill the demo unit. 2a. Go to the conduit, and look for the closest door which goes to another tile. Go through that door; listen for the demo sound, and look for the red ripple effect. If you hear or see it, go into that tile, go to the red ripple effect, and look for the demo unit. If you don't hear or see it, go back to the conduit and try another door. 2b. If you see another player checking a door, don't follow them; go to a different door. You want to spread out as much as possible; the sooner someone finds the demo unit, the sooner they can slow it down and lead others to it. 2c. Watch for that red enemy objective marker to appear; that means someone else found the demo unit. Go to it and help them kill it.

Tips: * Know when to cut your losses. You fail the mission and lose all rewards if you fail every defense in a single round; however, you can leave anytime you want to, with or without the rest of the team. If you've failed three conduits, don't start the fourth, just go to extraction.
