The Vacuum Within 2: Railjack Edition. Posted: 13 Dec 2019 09:58 AM PST The current state of Railjack means that if you want to get all of the loot drops in a mission you have to spend longer than the mission took searching out all of the tiny dots and dragging the Railjack to the Avionics pieces, Salvage, and Dirac. Archwings have always had an awful vacuum but it feel even worse in Railjack missions. You aren't getting anything unless you wait for every fighter you kill to explode and fly directly into the blue/purple dots it drops. If they drop anything else you won't be able to pick it up which feels like a bad bug. Until you figure out that it probably isn't one and you have to use the Railjack instead you're just going to miss out on the most important loot. The Railjack doesn't even have a vacuum so it's stuck with the role of slowly flying to pick up the drops archwings can't and ramming into them. If you don't want to spend a ton of time after the mission is over chasing down drops that's what you have prioritize over fighting the enemies that are shooting at you. Spending time searching for loot drops isn't fun. The Railjack should just flat out receive all loot drops automatically or have such a large vacuum (4-5km) that you only need to take it places where combat occurred. If loot drops aren't automatically acquired Archwings need their own ~500m vacuum in Railjack missions and should be able to pick up anything that drops. Shared loot for Railjack missions was a great change that means you could spend more time playing and less time worrying about picking it up. If you are really worried about making resources too easy to get and messing up the crafting economy at least let us get the Avionics/salvage/Dirac so we don't have to spend so much time hunting them down if we want upgrades. Refining Railjack materials needs to fucking go. Posted: 13 Dec 2019 09:09 PM PST More than half of the railjack missions I've done today have ended the same way, with half of the team screaming at the other half about refining materials. Either someone refining them in the middle of the mission and fucking over resupplies or someone refining them at the end of the mission so they can leave while pissing off someone else that expected to continue on using what was collected. Seriously... cut out the extra steps here and just reward people with the spoils collected when they exit the mission. [link] [comments]
My only significant critique of Empyrean thus far; Your railjack is by far the weakest link Posted: 13 Dec 2019 06:13 PM PST If we were dropped into these missions in archwing, without our ship to act as a single point of failure, Empyrean missions would be trivial solo content for anyone with decent archwing equipment. If i'm hosting the game, my first action is to drop out of the ship - I can't remember the last time i even touched the navigation controls. Usually i leave the squad open so pugs can join and play around with my ship, and hopefully patch it up when it needs it, while i get out there and take out the cruiseships personally and gun down any smaller craft left functional once the big guns have imploded. Now don't get me wrong, i love just about everything about the gamemode and the ship itself. It just doesn't hold up compared to our other equipment. That's not exactly a problem, because like i say, i can easily do the missions and i do enjoy the mode. It just feels like the actual core ship should be more useful, as well as durable. Now we know why Cy's first crew died Posted: 13 Dec 2019 11:08 AM PST
Posted: 13 Dec 2019 09:01 AM PST Crafting consumables to use things on your Railjack is a dumb idea and I hate it. It's a roadblock to the gameplay that doesn't need to exist, but worse than that it's a resource sink for resources that do not need to be sunk. As it turns out, the thing that happens when you run out of main gun ammo is... nothing! You just don't get to use your main gun. And with how absolutely pathetic ship-mounted guns are compared to man-portable Archguns or enemy crewships, it doesn't really matter. I'm sure it'd be nice to use the giant missile launcher to nuke smaller ships, and the few times I've done it it was nice. But using this gun costs money, so I'm not going to use it. Same thing with the boarding gun: we've never bothered to use it, because your "away team" just flies over and boards on their own for free. And I'm going to slap whatever moron steals the helm and does use the main gun, and I'm going to slap whatever moron goes into the Forge and crafts more of it in-mission, because that comes directly out of our mission reward. And the biggest issue: this shit is expensive! If you take your Railjack into combat you will be breached. You will need a repair bitch. Someone has to babysit the ship and keep it from imploding, and this uses up your mission reward! A mission reward which is critically needed to craft better parts for your ship since your ship is critically underpowered. We've found a half dozen new parts, and we haven't been able to craft any of them because of the high resource costs. Costs which would be fine if these resources weren't being funneled into keeping the ship afloat. And this is only for Mk1 parts, Mk2 parts are even more expensive. As it stands, your Railjack is a liability and a money-pit and it doesn't need to be that way. The winning strategy in Railjack missions seems to be to abandon your Railjack a few kilometers away from the mission area and then just proceed on Archwing until you can hijack a crewship instead. But I mean who could have predicted that? We found far more problems than just this in even a short 4 hours of gameplay. Obvious, critical balance issues that never needed to be an issue in the first place. All of the systems requiring in-mission crafting and consumables could have been implemented with simple cooldowns or have been free to use:
And if DE wants to keep the crafting because they like the animations or whatever, then let people craft buffs. If I start reloading the main gun and need to use it, I can shout down and have my repair bitch fast-track an ammo bundle up the ship to reload instantly. If there are a bunch of fires on the ship, let the repair bitch craft a ship-wide extinguisher charge to put out all the fires at once (there's already an Avionics for this). If the ship is low on energy, let the repair bitch craft an energy core to dump into the reactor for an overcharge. This way the in-mission crafting isn't required, but it can still be done to your benefit. I want to like Empyrean, but man there are so many obvious problems already visible. They're not even all crafting-related, like what if an actual MR4 Smolt takes the helm and flies the ship into a swarm of fighters and we all die? Because we actually had this happen. An actual, honest-to-god uncolored Smolt. Not his fault, of course, he didn't know any better. But I'm sure you've all attempted a tricap with some moron who should know better. Posted: 13 Dec 2019 12:37 AM PST I spent half an hour on a Railjack mission and didn't get jack-shit for my troubles because the host went outside the ship and then went afk. Had to abort and lose everything because you literally can't complete the mission if everyone isn't inside the ship. For the love of god PLEASE fix this. Just force people back into the ship after a timer like you do in the gate for Cetus, or finally let us vote-kick people out of squads to save us the trouble. [link] [comments] |
