    Baro Ki'Teer: A Retrospective of 2019

    Ah, 2019. The year of Amalgams, Liches, Railjack, and the Machete Wraith becoming a weapon instead of a letter opener. Also, and more importantly, a year of Baro to look through, compare, and write thoughts about!

    Before I begin, the categories are "gameplay relevant" for anything used for and in gameplay (from weapons, to mods, to specters), "warframe customization" for things used to customize (primarily in game/loading screens like skins or sugatras), "orbiter customization" for decorations, floofs, and glyphs, and "other" for things that don't fit in the options above. I'm going to do a brief run through of previous year's Baro's: nothing in depth, but done because it helps the comparisons later.

    Baro 2015 + 2014: Doing these together, as 2014 only had 2 visits since it's when Baro was introduced.

    • 32 gameplay relevant additions.
    • 29 warframe customization additions.

    Baro 2016:

    • 14 gameplay relevant additions.
    • 22 warframe customization additions.
    • 9 other additions: boosters, beacons, mod packs, and the overpriced catalyst.

    Baro 2017:

    • 12 gameplay relevant additions.
    • 20 warframe customization additions.
    • 4 orbiter customizations.

    Baro 2018:

    • 13 gameplay relevant additions.
    • 21 warframe customization additions.
    • 6 orbiter customizations.

    Finally, Baro 2019. The thing this whole post is about.

    • 9 gameplay relevant additions.
    • 14 warframe customization additions.
    • 16 orbiter customizations.
    • 1 other; mod drop chance booster.

    I want to note a few things: first, orbiter customizations overtook everything else. Second, of our warframe customization options only the Prisma Avia set, dog/cat shoulder emblems, and the infested sugatra are agnostic. Everything else we got is highly specific (such as a Dread specific skin, or Paracesis specific skin). In fact, most of our new things were cosmetics for a single weapon/warframe/weapon type.

    Finally, on the gameplay note we had an unprecedented low in gameplay, made worse because that count includes such things as the Ignis Wraith, Primed Pack Leader, and Primed Smites.

    While overall a fantastic year for IKEAframe, I caution that 2019 hopefully does not become the norm. For general warframe gameplay 2019 has been a pretty barren year for Baro, as the customizations are at an all time low and almost all specific to a single item, while most of the gameplay additions were disappointing at best.

    Hopefully 2020's Baro (and further beyond) learn from this and have more general cosmetics (such as syandanas/armor sets) and at least have interesting Primed mods. Not necessarily good, but I'd rather take the thought exercise of Primed Hammer Shot or Primed Redirection instead of the wasted ducats of Primed Pack Leader or Primed Smite Corrupted. Something so that players can look forward to Baro for gameplay customization or gameplay itself, and not just for orbiter decorations.

    I love you guys!! Thank you for doing this dangerous duty for the greater good!

    You are putting yourself out there in order for us to finish this mission in a timely manner and facing the mechanic that is currently most prone to bug you out. You arent the heroes we deserve but most certainly the heroes we need.

    More often than not I will pilot my ship and have all Fighters down and then look around seeing three active Crew Ships. I look back at my teammates:

    • afk in a sidegun
    • afk in the big destroyer maingun
    • afk in the Archwing slingshot
    • shooting asteroids for crafting materials
    • waiting around with repair tool out for things to catch on fire while we have full shields
    • crafting more dome charges for the 3 shots they fired out of it that didnt even kill 1 crewship
    • sitting behind my pilot seat enjoying the view plastering my windshield with glyphs
    • already back in their personal quarters looking at the lotus pinup on the wall

    Dont be those guys.

    Now after I got this out of my system, here is how I personally deal with Crewships. I do not claim this the be all and end all method but it has served me very well (potential Spoiler warning here):

    • Klamora Prism multihits the core
    • Void Dashes can quickly navigate to the core after you had practise bonking your head on all the corners
    • Magus Lockdown will CC the crew while you get busy
    • Void Mode lets me touch the Console in peace
    • Z/Y Button (depending on region) will instantly use a Cipher. Currently there is a bug where you dont even need to hack the console - we are just futureproofing ourself here.
    • Bonus points if your Tenno dies just as the core starts to explode sending you right back to the entrance
