Posted: 03 Mar 2020 03:18 PM PST WARNING: LONG POST So I went on a bit of a rant about arcanes somewhere else about arcanes and how the "buffs" that DE is giving to some aren't going to change the meta much if at all, with the exception of the HEAVY nerfs to certain arcanes. There's a reason that there are 3-5 arcanes that are widely used while the rest go from rarely used or never used because they either are so completely terrible that they have no purpose, or that, if you're using arcanes and have done the farm for them, you more than likely will just use the most consistent and potent ones. An important note is that all of these evaluations are from a post-arcane change/rebalancing perspective based off of what is listed in the workshop post, which I will link to here for reference: https://forums.warframe.com/topic/1171232-2020%E2%80%99s-first-mainline-review-revise-refresh/ First, I'll mention all the strictly bad ones:
Now for the Bad but have a niche even if that niche isn't very useful:

Now, with the nerf to it, you DO have to grind Eidolons super hard to get that survivability (21 total arcanes), AND at a lower proc rate. This feels like a rather short-sighted nerf as squishier frames were already needing more survivability and this just makes it even harder for them to survive the current content. Lets just hope it's rather cheap to obtain from the upcoming event, because the nerf it got was pretty unwarrented and needs to be even easier to access to be slightly justified.
The Uncertain ones:
Only one I haven't mentioned that i can think of is Pistoleer, which I'm honestly not sure how useful or not it is, but it's very fun, so that's a thumbs up from me. Not being able to reactivate it during the duration makes sense, but kinda kills it for super low ammo pool secondaries. So, going over this list (I think I covered all of them?), for the most part, the changes only reduced the number of Good arcanes that people were already using, rather than actually buffing the others to be worth considering over them. Also, personally, I think that "nerfing the top end" to bring up the other arcanes in terms of relative power is somewhat missing the point of some of them. Energize, Aegis, Grace, these are all RARE drops from Eidolons that you need MANY drops to get the full benefits out of, they SHOULD be powerful. Some of the rarer arcanes actually DID need a bit if a bump in power, but they didn't get one that atually makes a meaningful difference partially because of their function just not being useful by comparison. They need a change in function more than anything to actually be brought up in terms of power, not just some numbers tweaks. The arcanes with the most usful fuctions will remain the best ones unless the less useful ones got some absurd numbers buffs or a meaningful change in how they proc or their effect. I won't say that Grace, Energize, and Aegis didn't deserve some nerfs, but that won't change the fact that other arcanes won't realistically be brought up enough in power to compete with them. And then there's the case of Operator Magus arcanes a lot of which have such worthless effects that they aren't even worth mentioning (fall damage reduction when Void Mode exists LMAO). So everyone only really uses the WF healing ones and sometimes Lockdown, and maybe Anomaly if you're feeling spicy. Even people doing Eidolon hunts have moved away from using the EHP arcanes for operators in favor of them since the only times you'd need the extra EHP is if you've somehow messed up badly, and Lockdown is very useful on Vomalysts. That coupled with Transferrence static not really mattering means most people dont care about Operator EHP bc you have almost no consequences for dying as Operator. TL:DR - I understand the reason for the arcane changes and some of the nerfs, but the changes fail to accomplish what DE said they set out to do with the changes. They wanted to clamp the power differential down, but have only succeeded in reducing the number of powerful or even just useful arcanes without fixing some core issues of the worse or bad ones. To truly clamp down on the power differental, there need to be reworks in the functionality of less useful arcanes so they have a more potent function and/or easier or more consistent activation. You just have to keep running pointless missions where if your lucky you'll get what you've essentially already earned. But you can't just get it, you have to wade through the bog of shitty RNG while you're taunted with the waypoints of thralls spawning which are 100% irrelevant. Why is there not a 100% chance your lich will spawn every single mission once you've found the combination? why force players to just keep running pointless missions for no other reason than to sacrifice their time to RNG? its inane, like goddamn its so annoying to have already put the work in for a cool gun but you just have to keep shoving time into the game doing pointless missions until you're graced with your lich finally spawning. I'm MR8, and my three other squad mates are MR13+. Today's last mission is a Spy mission, and I'm like, "alright so I'm bringing Ivara and an optimal build for Spy." The map is really big, and there's at least 700m give or take between each data. Not a single one of my squad mates bothered to bring any frame that even cloaks or at least helps in spy. I was the only one. I got data A. Then I was out of energy. No one was making progress on the other ones. I think, "maybe they're getting there/a little slow since it's so far away." No. They weren't in fact. So I killed myself to get more energy, thinking "okay at least one of them has to get at least one data, right? I can cover two?" No. I literally jump around the whole map for a few minutes, while one of them complains CONSTANTLY in game chat that "yoU'rE tAkiNg sO lOng." At this point, I'm almost angry. But I just want to get this over with, so I get to the third data. One of them, with a S A R Y N (not even Prime) decides to stupidly step into the last data room before I can make it there. He obviously trips the alarm- instant game over before I even get there. I'm so sad, I type in chat "None of you have stealth frames or ones that can at least get there in time during alarm...?" Then they all left, with the last guy complaining about "my incompetence." For MR13+ I couldn't believe what happened, as an MR8. Please, why do people have to do this to me? I'm on console and these types of experiences almost never happen, but when they do it leaves me questioning--- how lazy are these people? How much of the game were they carried? Sure, I've been helped by Veterans but I've done a lot knowing I can't and won't allow myself to be babied through the game because I'll end up like these people. Please, to give a better experience to others, at least carry 10% of the weight. It doesn't even have to be 25%. EDIT: Regarding all of the comments pointing out stealth frame is not needed for spy; I most definitely understand that. I was just expressing that it was obvious from the beginning when they brought questionable frames into the mix, that it was clear they could possibly be leeching. I understand all frames can be viable when built for it, but I'm explaining that these squad mates clearly didn't build for it or have the skill to compensate the fact that they weren't using preferable frames/tactics for spy that would make their skill be good enough. In either case I don't get to play the game but at least with Saryn I don't have a seizure from a Wukong with bright pink energy and a Bramma wielding clone. Seriously though, once self damage gets removed I can't see how explosive weapons won't be insanely popular, so for all our sake can you please let us turn off/down the effects of explosions for allies? It legitimately hurts my eyes to play with someone with a Bramma who has bright energy colors. Thanks DE. [link] [comments] | ||
Posted: 03 Mar 2020 01:08 PM PST With the new proposed changes for Arcane Energize it will be changed to energy over X duration. Which is fine by itself, but my big worry is that it will behave like other energy over duration mechanics. This would mean for a lot of exalted weapon frames and channelling frames to become nerfed Mesa, Wukong, Equinox, Excalibur, Valkyr all get a nerf from this when it comes to endgame content. I´m not convinced that making channelling Warframes worse after most of them got hit by Melee 3.0 is something the community wants. Do you guys realy think it´s a great idea to turn the gameplay for Warframes with channelled abilities into "Turn off everything every 30-40 seconds, drop 3 Energy Restores and turn everything on again"? The way I see it, the change to Arcane Energize is the worst kind of change/nerf you could have come up with: Something that makes gameplay more clunky. If the changes for Arcane Energize go live like this, I hope you better have something planned to adress the energy economy on channelling frames or I might aswel throw the towel and play something else. Patching fun out of the game should not be the intend behind balance changes.
