    Upcoming Protea Changes

    Posted: 18 Jun 2020 12:57 PM PDT

As we pass our 7 day mark since the launch of The Deadlock Protocol on PC, our hands are busy at work making changes based on great player feedback! We hope to provide Protea with both visual improvements as well as touching on some Ability mechanic improvements. We're aiming to slip this in before Console Cert as well so our Console Tenno can enjoy an improved version of Protea!

    Grenade Fan

    • Increased Duration of both grenades by 3 seconds.
    • Increased Range of both grenades at max rank from 4 to 5 meters.
      • For Shield Satellite, this applies to the grenade pickup Range.
    • Increased Shield Satellite grenade count from 3 to 4 to accommodate max Squad sizes.
    • Increased visibility FX on available Shield Satellite grenades to aid in differentiating between the two grenades.
    • Doubled the Damage of the Shrapnel Vortex grenade.
    • Fixed Protea's Grenade Fan/ Shield Satellites appearing giant while using Archwing.

Our goal here is to improve efficacy, usability, and logic of Grenade Fan!

    Blaze Artillery

    • Increased Duration of Blaze Artillery by 1 second, and doubled the Damage multiplier to compete against higher level enemies. Duration will now show in Arsenal stats instead of the maximum number of shots.
    • Protea's Blaze Artillery will now shoot through Volt's Shield, but won't benefit from its buffs.
    • Fixed Protea's Blaze Artillery not targeting ragdolled enemies.

Our goal here is to keep the spirit of the rapid fire Artillery alive, with just a bit more punch. We will monitor for feedback after this change as well.

    Dispensary

    • Protea's Dispensary location is now displayed on the minimap in the form of the Ability icon.
      • Similar to Wisp's Reservoirs!

    Temporal Anchor

    • Protea is now invulnerable for the first 3 seconds of Temporal Anchor (i.e on cast, to prevent casting animation deaths).

This invulnerability window is an important add based on all the ways players have used Temporal Anchor thus far - that key survivability reaction should include invulnerability.

We look forward to your feedback on these changes after they are live!

Warframe Partner and Fansite Programs: A New Chapter

    Posted: 18 Jun 2020 11:10 AM PDT

    Source

    Header image

If you have interacted with any Warframe content creators online, you might be aware of our Warframe Partner and Fansite programs. These programs have shone a light on a group of amazing independent individuals who have done everything from making guides about new content, brightening days with fun-filled livestreams or creating useful community tools.

While we cherish the work we have done with our community creators, we feel it is time to close the chapter for these programs. So, the Warframe Partner and Warframe Fansite programs will be ending on June 19, 2020.

With the ending of one chapter, comes the beginning of another!

We will be launching a brand new program that highlights the variety and depth of content creation in our community in the form of a Creator program! It will support:

    • Fan Artists - new!

    • Captura Artists - new!

    • Podcasts

    • Fan Sites (Guide sites, community tools, etc.)

    • Broadcasters (Twitch/Mixer, etc.)

    • Video Producers (YouTube, etc.)

Our goals have always been to highlight the amazing independent talent within our community, and we are beyond excited to expand our support to more types of Creators. As much as we loved our work with our Partner and Fansite Programs, the gaming space was a very different time when they were started six years ago. We felt it was time to retire them to rebuild a community-focused content creator program that reflected industry standards in 2020.

Part of those standards apply to general policies when it comes to conduct and professionalism, and ensuring that the Creator Program is a low-pressure resource to supplement content creation while avoiding burnout. We are also thrilled to expand the kind of content we support, while also ensuring multi-platform Creators get access to the best tools in one unified program.

For many years we have featured Fan Artists in a variety of ways to support their art and talent --- that isn't changing, and will not tie into the Creator Program. Instead, the Creator Program will offer tools and resources for artists (and other Creators) to build their online presence and communities.

Since 2014 with the start of the Fan Channel Program, later turned Partner and Fansite Programs, we learned a lot and made mistakes along the way, and we are very much aware of the criticisms shared with us by both Partners and the community. The lack of trust that some might have in our policies is a failure on our part that we hope to remedy with the clearer policies and guidelines we have designed for the Creator Program.

There is still much to talk about for the Creator Program, but we will wait to do so when it officially launches later this summer! This new program will have a new application process for all, so if you're interested, keep an eye out for when applications launch!

    TL;DR:

    • Warframe Partner / Fansite Programs close June 19.

    • Creator Program being introduced later this summer that will include Fan Artists, Captura Creators, and more.

    • 2020 industry standard policies made with respect to burnout and conduct.

    Creator Program goals:

The Warframe Creator Program is a flexible community-focused support program aimed at offering resources to those making videos, fan art, capturas, podcasts, websites, or livestreams about Warframe. These resources and tools are built as a professional system to help elevate creators in the community and lower barriers to entry for content creation.

What does the Creator Program offer?

We are using our 6 years of work with content creators to distill our program offerings into 4 core perks that we believe best serve the program goals to lower barriers to content creation.

    Those are:

    • Day One Access (receiving new content as it releases)

    • Giveaways

    • Weekly confidential newsletters

    • Featured content opportunities

"Featured Content" manifests in many ways outside of extra visibility on our social channels. We will continue with Twitch / Mixer raids, but expand them to include fan art or music streams related to Warframe. Community Spotlights (now called Creator Spotlights) are also returning as a recurring way to highlight the talent in our community.

Additionally, we want to invest in tools that help Creators improve their craft, so to start, we will be offering artist workshops with [DE] Staff from our Art Team every few months. We hope to find ways to do so for other types of content creation as well!

    What about Glyphs?

Glyphs are not offered via the Creator program, and instead we handle their distribution in other ways that best serve the community. Glyph waves will continue in the future, just not within the exclusive context of the Creator program.

    Are Program Criteria Changing?

Yes! We are lowering overall program requirements since our tools are aimed at lessening barriers to entry for content creation. The final requirements will be announced upon launch!

Are Existing Partners and Fansites being grandfathered in?

No -- this is a new program with new rules, so anyone interested in joining will have to reapply and each application will be reviewed under the same standards!

    How is this program "flexible"?

There are two ways that this term applies to the Creator Program.

Firstly, the process of leaving and rejoining will be streamlined to allow for Creators to take breaks from the game, while ensuring that our Creator Directory is filled with active Creators.

We will be more frequent in inactivity removals for those absent for a significant period of time. To counter that, we will be offering faster re-entry to the program for those lapsed due to inactivity. The program perks are directly tied to content creation for Warframe specifically, so if you are not playing, revocation of those perks should have less of an impact.

Since we are working with more individuals whose content creation is more time intensive (ex: fan artists), we are aware of the need to establish fair guidelines for inactivity tied to content type, and intend to do so.

Secondly, this new program is flexible due to the vast amount of content supported under one umbrella. Previously there was a separation between our fansites / podcasts, and Youtubers/broadcasters, and that limited what opportunities were available to individuals based on the program they were in. Now Creators will get access to perks that serve whatever kind of Warframe content they make in a unified program.

Will there be a clearer means of reporting Creator misconduct?

Yes, we are establishing clearer reporting and tracking tools for Creator Conduct concerns. Community members will be able to forward their concerns to us via an email we will publicly list on the Creator application and criteria page.

There have been conduct enforcement concerns in the past. How will things change so these concerns don't come up again?

When we started wading into this program redesign, one of the first steps was reflecting on our actions and policies as Devs across the Partner program in general. We have been doing this for six long, storied years, and we will be the first to admit that mistakes and missteps were made along the way.

In this time, we looked at how our peers have managed similar programs, and their enforcement policies to ensure we are meeting industry standards. We are implementing clearer professional guidelines and policies to ensure those mistakes don't happen again, as well as put in place better tools for reporting and tracking that lets us identify and act on moments of concern sooner.

    Clem revision

    Posted: 18 Jun 2020 05:05 PM PDT

So I think we need an update to the way helping Clem works, because the only think we get for helping is a bunch of Clem clone BPs.

I think instead, doing the missions should reward Clem coins that can be spent with Darvo for other things. Like; Clem clones, Clem floof, Clem's Syandana, Clem Noggle, and some special mods.

There should be more rewards for helping Clem.

Can we have Umbra's scarf for the operator but without it covering the mouth? I think that would be nice.

This mod still makes bows deal self damage if the explosion procs, although the damage is relatively insignificant

    Posted: 18 Jun 2020 07:20 PM PDT

Getting self staggered in operator mode < literally anything else

    Posted: 18 Jun 2020 03:25 PM PDT

I've hated the idea of self stagger since the moment it was introduced because self damage was easily avoidable and there is literally no risk in actually killing yourself since team revives and multiple revive options are a thing. Ill continue to hate self stagger but deal with it, ok? BUT CAN WE PLEASE REMOVE SELF STAGGER FROM AMPS.

On another note while i'm complaining about self stagger, self stagger doesn't belong on a handful of the weapons its on and adding self stagger to weapons that never had self damage causes pain to my brain. I can gladly say i am happy i got to enjoy warframe before self stagger was a thing. I am going to farm protea now. cheers!

Edit: (I know amps did damage before but self stagger is still not the answer for it)

Protea Ability: Dispensary, in the Index

    Posted: 18 Jun 2020 04:39 PM PDT

I noticed that when Protea uses her Dispensary when in The Index the map no longer spawns Energy Orbs in their Spawning Bays.

I would very much like to see this change so that her Energy spawns do not interfere with those of the Index.

Don't go into the Granum Void when doing Invasions on the Corpus side. You won't be able to attack the spectres as they are your "allies."

    Posted: 18 Jun 2020 07:15 AM PDT

I just went in during a Corpus v Infested Invasion, and was humoured to find that not only could I not attack them, but they were following me around like other Invasion allies do. I expect it to be patched out as soon as a dev notices, but until then, don't waste your coins like I did lmao.

Protea Turret with 301% Duration Build

    Posted: 18 Jun 2020 06:40 PM PDT

Protea suggestions from a Khora main

    Posted: 18 Jun 2020 10:22 AM PDT

Edit: With the recent announcement of DE's own planned Protea changes, I'm not sure how much of what I suggest about her turret is still applicable. It's not the direction I would personally like for her turrets, but it does address the scaling of her turret albeit in a different way. Whereas I would like a higher range to hit more enemies and build a larger combo, DE is planning to just make the combo scale faster in general. And whereas I would like the turret to last for the listed ammo to get more total hits, DE is increasing the duration by 50% which does basically the same thing. My suggestions and DE's planned changes would be far too much.

    https://old.reddit.com/r/Warframe/comments/hblqxa/upcoming_protea_changes/

I know the title sounds a bit odd, but hear me out: Protea and Khora released with some very similar ability problems, and Protea could be improved the same way Khora was. Here's an excerpt from Khora's last major ability update in U22.20:

    • Removed the Line of Sight check from Ensnare to make it more reliable.
    • Range Mods now affect Whipclaw's AoE radius, but it is capped.

    🤔

Sound familiar? Protea's turret has the same problems and could use the same improvements. Blaze Artillery has line-of-sight checks that can cause it to fail to target an enemy. Often times a railing or the corner of a wall will block the turret from targeting an enemy, and if you use something like the Ferrox to bundle enemies tightly together then the hitboxes of the group of enemies will actually block line-of-sight for the whole group, causing the turret to ignore them. And when Blaze Artillery does shoot at enemies, the AoE radius is low and unmoddable so it often only hits one or two enemies at a time. This makes it hard to build up a good shot counter and deal with heavier enemies.

So do the same thing as with Khora. Remove or relax the line-of-sight checks so Blaze Artillery can shoot into concentrated groups and around obstacles more reliably, and make the AoE radius scale with Range mods so it can hit scattered enemies as a group. Other than that, remove the duration cap so the turrets last until they've fired all their ammo and add some little QoL changes like a visible firing cone and the ability to aim the turrets vertically. An example.

And like the original Venari, Protea's Temporal Anchor hasn't quite landed the way it should have either. Temporal Anchor is just weird to use; the best way I can describe the problem with it is that hindsight is 20/20 and foresight is not. Right now you have to know ahead of time that you're going to be killed in 12s, or that you're going to jump off a ledge in 8s, or that you're going to deal 50k damage on a group of enemies in 16s, and so on. It just doesn't work with Warframe's fast-paced and unpredictable gameplay.

So instead of scrapping the ability for something else, do the same that was done with Venari and make some small mechanical tweaks to how the ability is used. Make it so her 4 is always recording a buffer of the last X seconds of gameplay, and allow players to rewind any time they want by holding 4. When you're back to a state or position that you like, you just release 4 to stop rewinding. The explosion damage mechanic can show the amount of damage recorded during the buffer so you always know how much damage you can rewind and deal. And like Venari, this ability can be partially made into part of Protea's passive by making the rewind-on-death always active but with a reasonable cooldown (~60-90s).

    TL;DR:

Protea has a lot of the same problems as Khora, and she can be fixed up the same way.

    • Remove or relax Blaze Artillery's line-of-sight check, like how Ensnare's LoS was removed.
    • Allow Blaze Artillery's AoE radius to scale with Range mods, like how Whipclaw's AoE was improved.
    • Remove the duration limit so they always shoot all their ammo and add QoL like visual feedback and allowing vertical aiming.
    • Change Temporal Anchor to be always recording and you can rewind at any time by holding 4 with the rewind-on-die moved to a part of her passive, like how Venari had a light mechanical rework and became part of Khora's passive.
