I finally understand why Warframe emotionally impacts me. Posted: 06 Apr 2021 06:31 PM PDT Sci-fi games are all about the power fantasy. And to be sure, that's a big reason why we play those games, to pretend to be someone we're not, someone better than the squishy wet bags of salt and fluid that we are. But most game developers focus on that power and try to make their games epic, and so incredibly divorced from what we are. I think that game devs forget that people are playing their games, and forget why we gravitate towards power. It's because we're not powerful in real life, we have our trauma, our forgotten past, our limitations, and most of all our vulnerability. For the same reason why I can't relate to the story of games like Destiny or Anthem, a majority of sci-fi or high fantasy games have characters that are not written like actual human beings, or in which we ourselves feel like observers rather than fulfilled in a living universe. They are as boring as plain white wonderbread, a pure white canvas with no edges or smudges, imminently likeable and overpowered, with no room to fail, and thus no room to grow, transform, bloom, or relate to. If they have flaws, they're forced ones that don't seem real. I think that's why games like Morrowind are so beloved, because we got to define ourselves in a way that felt personal and also let us confront our own darkest vices. Sci-fi almost always misses this, with rare exceptions like Mass Effect or characters such as Amos from The Expanse. When you put that deeply personal motivation for why you're here playing this game in the first place, and put the operator front and center, we get catharsis of who we dream of being versus who we are, especially in the context of how much time and grind we put into this game to realize that dream, if only in a game. We come face to face with ourselves as children we were who wanted to be something more than who we were told to be. As one of my favorite Shen comics says: "we start life as a mushy soft thing. And then, as we get pelted with rejection, we transform into a tough, unfeeling, and highly efficient robot... piloted by a mushy soft thing." That's why Warframe is the best game in its genre for me, because it literally embodies that sentiment. [link] [comments]

Ice Mines in Neptune Proxima could be a good place for an alternative Cryotic farm Posted: 06 Apr 2021 08:27 AM PDT We all know how much of a pain farming Cryotic is. (Thanks u/Reidrea for reminding me of the futility of attempting to craft that freezing ephemera. Although we do have the much better looking vengeful chill & frostfall ephemeras but that's not the point. The Ice Mines in Neptune Proxima could be a great place to add another Cryotic farm. I'm positive it'll end up being a equal pain in the ass, but at least I'll have another place I can go to farm Cryotic other than the Excavation missions. (Plz don't put an excavation mission in the Ice Mines DE, I'm begging you. Don't). Who knows maybe we'll end up crafting that Sibear after all. [link] [comments]

Out of the 3 open world, Fortuna standing design is the worst. Posted: 06 Apr 2021 07:24 PM PDT I mean both SU and VS. Their standing and rank up design overly rely on RNG and bounty rewards, and that is extremely frustrating and not rewarding. Cetus: both Ostron and the Quills are asking for PoE resources and sentient core, which are guarantee (or almost guarantee) drops from your normal game play. All you need to do is to spend time to fish and mine and do eidolon capture for a while. Not to mention the introduction of tusk thumper. The Quill standing is a bit catch-22 since you cannot reliably do eidolon without their amp, but still it is a manageable task. Necralisk: family token system is one of the best improvement from the daily standing grind. It allows you to "store" standing so you no longer need to do tasks on a daily basis. The bounties were also much more generous in term of standing (close to 13k equivalent per tier 5 bounty, compare to about 5k in PoE and Fortuna). The requirement of other tokens (daughter, son, father) is not that harsh either. Necraloid is a bit messy because orokin matrix is RNG, but at least they are guarantee drops from enemy Necramech. Fortuna: SU requires debt bonds to rank up, while VS requires toroids. The biggest problem is that both of them are RNG with no guarantee drops. Ticket sells debt bonds but has a time limit and is a bit RNG. Low tier debt bonds are not an issue, but familial debt bonds are almost only rewarded in bounty tier 5. Here is the problem: familial debt bonds are not guarantee drop, you may end up with like 400 endo and credits (thanks DE). Not even relics. It is a grind, but it is the least rewarding. VS is even more crazy. Toroid drop chance in the field is abysmally small and cave run is a joke (all you get is mem fragment). Profit Taker heist provides a more reliable source but it is locked behind max rank SU (unlike Ostron/Quills and E. Family/Necraloid). Even then, the RNG is horrible and is severely diluted by other rewards - compare to sentient core and orokin matrix, both are guarantee drops from guarantee enemies. DE is planning to make another open world in a far distant future. Please, do not use the Fortuna model. [link] [comments]

Posted: 06 Apr 2021 03:04 PM PDT While I hunt, fish, or mine on the Plains, enemies tend to only spawn when I get too close to a camp, or a very rare patrol. Within the Orb, it's the same thing, with the patrols being a bit more frequent. But the Drift. Oh the Drift. I like fishing. I like hunting. I do it in between normal missions to wind down. And I absolutely cannot wind down when every time I try to fish/hunt/mine 20+ enemies spawn with another couple waves coming at me after that. I can't even seem to find a reliable fishing spot where I don't have enemies attacking me every minute or two. Am I just thinking that the spawn rate of enemies is much higher on the Drift? Or is there some special behavior with the infested that makes them attack in much larger groups, more frequently, and from further away? I want to get my standing up in the Necralisk, but my gosh it's becoming a chore rather than a fun in between missions ;-; [link] [comments]
