Gara Prime: Update 30.3 PC QOL Preview! Posted: 21 May 2021 09:01 AM PDT Hi Tenno, Have you seen the news? Gara Prime Access is releasing on May 25 on all platforms! Our gilded glass hero is nearly here. However - PC Tenno will notice their download size is 2.2 GB. There's a few reasons why. First, for PC Tenno, it's a Mainline. If you don't know what that means, it's when we deploy all pending changes to the game in a big batch. Second, it's jammed with Quality-of-Life. This post is a preview of what you can expect - these are highlights, and only a fraction of the Update notes that await you next week. As a bonus, this video is for folks who prefer a short overview: QOL Area 1: Railjack We have a batch of Quality of Life improvements to Railjack coming, with particular attention to Command and Mission Abort this round! Railjack Changes & Fixes:
QOL Area 2: UI We are doing update passes on some of the social aspects of Warframe, with particular attention paid to screen reworks for Friends and Clans this time around! Multiple screens have been refreshed with a new look and certain new functionalities! All of the screens listed below also now all take on your chosen UI theme.
QOL Area 3: New Player Experience We are chipping away at the friction in our New Player Experience, as many of us have started new accounts ourselves to cross-reference with player feedback we receive! We have a batch of improvements coming next week.
And because we need to remind everyone… "To be Continued…" The New War in the Codex will make more sense in the interim. We have a story to tell, Tenno. Thank you all - see you next week! [link] [comments]

A high effort post on the current balance of melee Posted: 21 May 2021 01:54 PM PDT First of all, let me start by saying that I sympathize with DE. This game looks completely different from 8 years ago, with so many mechanics, frames, and game modes added. I get that pulling blocks from the jenga tower can cause a collapse, but making an already wobbly tower even more top heavy by adding blocks is just as problematic. Second, this is regarding "high end" content, or content that's ostensibly supposed to provide a challenge to kitted out players. There's indisputably a damage problem in Warframe. Now I know we all like the power fantasy and whatnot, but at a certain point we blow through the point of "strong" and enter the realm of "no contest". By this I mean that there is not a single enemy or boss in the game that can provide a meaningful DPS check for a player with a complete build. At face value a lot of people may not see a problem with this, aren't DPS checks just a low effort roadblock to make elite gamers(tm) feel good about themselves? Arguably, but this is more indicative of a broader problem: DE cannot use damage output or enemy health to modulate the challenge or pacing of the game. There's a reason why new bosses are so heavily reliant on invulnerability phases. Profit taker, Exploiter, The Jackal, Liches, hell, even enemy Voidrigs have ways to put a pause on the action to avoid getting instagibbed by a rivened stropha. This trickles down all the way down to the core gameplay loop, where new enemies get boiled down to cool alternative models, because they get melted just as fast as your average crewman or lancer. A lot of people like to discuss AI improvements, but would we really notice them if the enemies still died the moment they enter our periphery? This heavily restricts what kind of enemies DE can release if they want players to engage with them and not cuisinart their way though the new content, resulting in weird, inconsitent rules playing whack a mole with damage methods. Liches can be tagged with status now after community backlash, but did you know that Deimos enemies will be occasionally immune to viral procs? Because I sure didn't until I decided to look up why viral builds were underperforming there. This brings us to the next problem: tougher enemies don't result in tougher content, but more restricted builds. The steel path may be daunting if you like using the Kuva Karak or Vaykor Marelok (rip to my boy), but it's just business as usual for stat stick Khora. Will nerfing Khora fix this? of course not. There's a million ways to chew through high end content, but even more ways that are simply not even on the table, even with rivens and warframe buffs in the equation. This speaks to the problem of disparities in damage scaling. Melee is the most egregious offender, with things like blood rush, condition overload, the combo counter, heavy attacks, and high range mods resulting in a method of damage output that blows everything but the upper end of DPS frames out of the water. Why on earth would I ever try to do damage with warframe abilities like Mirage's 4 or Hydroid's entire kit when even a half modded melee will scale further than those ever could? This is not just visible at the meta level of the game either, I remember Oberon's 4 damage falling off harshly later in my first run of the starchart, while my shoddily modded Lesion cut through levels like tissue paper, and this was well before melee 2.0. With the release of heavy attacks, even the high burst damage advantage provided by things like snipers has been completely replaced with one shot redeemers and slash procs that tick for 1,000,000. There was some blowback when they tentatively floated a melee nerf on the devstream, but this NEEDS to happen for anything regarding ability damage or gun damage to be brought in line. Now, meta finds a way. There's just too many abilities and mechanics in this game to feasibly sew up every overpowered damage dealer, and you're never going to entirely resolve the issue by swinging the nerf bat and dusting off your hands. But when you have a clear outlier like melee, bringing up other things to its level becomes an absurd endeavor. If melee already trivializes the whole game, is more things to trivialize everything really a solution? The way that melee damage in general is modded and calculated needs to be changed. Even if melee was slapped with a universal -50% damage nerf it would STILL outperform most everything in the game, and the effects would be felt mostly by new players who don't have a full suite of top tier mods. Going forward, EVERYTHING that does damage will be put in the context of how it compares to melee unless something changes. The Bramma didn't explode in popularity because of some interesting or unique mechanic, it's popular because it dishes out AOE on par with melee weapons. A melee nerf is almost a certainty at this point, and I'd argue that no one should be too peeved about it when it's definitively announced, because it's a serious impediment to diagnosing other balancing issues when a game has a singular mechanic that outshines the rest. Conversely, I would beg DE to not just tweak the mods and numbers, because the two most likely outcomes are that melee's position in the damage hierarchy remains unchanged, or that melee gets kneecapped so bad that everyone just tosses on primed sure footed and zooms through levels with the Bramma. tl;dr Melee is overtuned, and nothing can meaningfully be balanced until this is resolved. Melee damage and mod rework good, flat nerf bad [link] [comments]
