I would appreciate a discussion regarding Energy Leech & Parasitic enemies.

    Posted: 05 Jul 2021 11:49 AM PDT

I have considered this to be an issue for a long time and with every new update I expected that something would eventually change. With the next big update coming out soon and nothing regarding this, I think it's a good time to mention it.

    For those not aware:
-Energy Leech & Parasitic are Eximus units that drain your energy within 15m at a 5 energy/sec rate (which doesn't stack with multiple units thankfully).
-They also have 300% of their base health & shield and a 40% resistance to all damage types (this part is fine).

So, here's the thing. For as long as I can remember, these units never had a clear indication of their presence or their effect. The best way for you to realize one of these is affecting you is when you notice your energy pool going down (down down). There are multiple issues with this and I'll try to be as as possible.

    1. Let's take a look at their description in the wiki. They are "A tank which drains Energy from nearby enemies". One would expect that a "tank" with such an effect would be a slow-moving unit with high defenses, something that you have to stop before they get into close range and start affecting you. Some are close-combat units as well, but nope. Instead some of their common melee variants are enemies like Grineer Butchers or Infested Chargers. So they will usually rush you in a short amount of time and start draining your energy pool before you realize it is happening.

    2. Warframe a few years back used to spawn enemies in a different manner. Endless missions would spawn an endless amount of enemies (usually from a nearby tileset), while the other mission types would have a fixed amount of enemies (so you could in fact kill everyone during a mission). The aforementioned Eximus units were still an issue, however if your squad (or your solo self) noticed them coming, there was a chance to take them down before they get close. This mechanic however has since changed. Enemies now spawn endlessly (except for some times where they don't, for whatever reason) and they can also spawn behind you or on top of you (this is more common in endless missions). Void fissures get a pass from me cause that's their gimmick, the fissure can happen any place & any time, they provide an "oh s*it" moment when they happen next to you (it also doesn't happen constantly). This means that these Eximus can spawn very close to you without any indication (as enemies outside of the open-world areas simply spawn without a telegraph) and drain you without any way from your side to react.

    3. The energy drain is an ability that cannot be stopped. It is not an aura that you can turn off with Radiation procs (or if you're among the 5 people that play Nyx, in that case greetings fellow Nyx mains). Counter-play as a result is limited. There is also not the reward/satisfaction from taking them down. Killing an Ancient Healer makes those grouped around them lose the protection, bursting a Nullifier bubble makes the group around them an easy target for aoe damage. What happens when you kill an Energy Leech or a Parasitic unit? Nothing, you get no energy back, they drained you, job's done.

I think you get what I'm trying to say. What puzzles me is why this was never fixed over the years. I have seen posts from time to time addressing this issue but not much has happened in terms of improving these enemies. I also believe that highlighting an issue without any suggestions for improvement is only about 60% useful, so allow me to propose some ideas:

    • Energy Leech & Parasitic Eximus units could instead be slow-moving tanks with the same ability. They would gain higher resistances compared to their current values and possibly higher drain but they would no longer charge at you, giving you the option to take them out before it's too late (doesn't fix the instant spawn however).

    • Killing one of these units within close range restores a large percentage of your recently leeched energy back to you and you cannot be energy-drained for a few seconds (can proparly use the same coding for how Trinity restores energy on kill).

    • The energy drain ability becomes an aura or a debuff instead, meaning that you can shut it down without just killing the enemy or having the option to cleanse it or resist it (rolling guard, sancti magistar, etc).

    • The energy drain is instead an attack they can do, they throw something akin to Sapping Ospreys, after a while it pulses in an area and if you are standing in it your energy is drained. You can destroy whatever this is to cancel the ability.

Thank you for taking some of your time to read this. I would appreciate any insight on the matter.

The Tenno will lose the New War

    Posted: 05 Jul 2021 05:13 PM PDT

Allow me to elaborate. The Tenno will lose if the enemy factions continue to improve at their current rate. I say this because recently, I have noticed that some of the counters the Tenno have for new enemy technology is kinda luck based. Not as in the gameplay, but lore wise.

Think about it. When the sentients developed the ability to shut down Warframes, the only counter we have is the Necramechs, outdated technology that should have all been scrapped but luckily Father had some spares and the blueprints for more lying around. If father wasn't such a stickler for the good ol' days, we wouldn't have been able to defeat the orphix and we would have likely lost the war then and there.

The corpus are working a lot of sentient technology into their units and reckon its only a matter of time until some Corpus captain has the idea to try and combine their tech with the orphix.

Parvos has access to a near unlimited army of spectres and Sisters, plus the blueprints for one of the most dangerous and powerful warframes ever, and these all need a special weapon to take out. The Xoris for spectres and Protea and the Parazon with the right requiems for the Sisters.

Natah has mentioned that the sentients will be taking Necramechs into account for the next assaults they launch with the orphix.

It was lucky that the Tenno rediscovered archwing tech when Vay Hek created the Fomorian.

If the Tenno don't start creating our own new weapons and tools, like every other faction we are going to lose this war, simply because we our technology is going to be too old. The tenno need R&D teams and ones that don't rely on blueprints of weapons from other factions and years gone by. New weapons for the new war.
