Stolen comment from wiki about my feelings on the Tenet Diplos

    Posted: 14 Jul 2021 04:49 AM PDT

Parvos: Here are the Tenet Diplos. Automatic dual pistols with built in homing projectile technology.

Tenno: Cool, easy headshots, sounds useful!

Parvos: Oh you see, the homing system targets the body, not the head.

Tenno: Well at least i can unload a barrage if bullets into the target without missing, those things fire pretty fast.

Parvos: Oh, that wont do, we decided it should only fire in bursts of 2 when using the targeting system.

Tenno: That does not sound bad i can pull the trigger rather fast

Parvos: Oh, you see, after firing a burst, you have to wait, like a second to re-target the enemy before you can fire again.

    Tenno: Kuva Nukor it is.

A Loki Revisit concept to bring our favorite trickster up to modern Warframe standards

    Posted: 14 Jul 2021 02:25 PM PDT

    TL;DR at the bottom.

Loki is basically the only frame who has received next to no major updates/changes since the launch of Warframe. While he is still a popular and functional frame today, his kit is incredibly outdated and simple. All the new frames and even older frames who have received revisits have much more interesting kits with cool synergies to keep them engaging. The last significant update he received was an increase to his base armor and even that was only a result of the changes to Arcane Guardian. Every other change was either cosmetic or a bugfix. I've played Loki since the time when he was a starter frame and to this day he still holds the No. 1 spot of my most used frames.

While I have amazing memories of super long solo survivals and T4 endurance runs where disarm was the only thing keeping the team from getting 1-shot by a stray bombard rocket, the CC meta has long since fallen through the tiles and that leaves Loki in a very particular spot where he is only really seen (or rather not seen) in spies/sabotages/any mission where you don't have to kill a lot of things. The Loki I picked up as my starter frame is no different from the Loki that is sadly collecting dust in my arsenal today, but the rest of the game has moved leaps and bounds ahead. I believe it's high time our resident trickster got some love, which includes some QoL improvements in addition to an Ember-esque revisit in terms of scope. The goal would be to bring Loki up to modern Warframe standards while maintaining his identity as a trickster, giving him more teamplay potential and additional synergies in his kit.

So what can be done to entice our reclusive Loki to come out of doing nothing but solo spies? Here are my thoughts on the current Loki and possible changes in a revisit:

Passive: Loki's current passive is incredibly underwhelming. Warframe has an amazing parkour system that incentivizes constant movement, so why would you ever want to sit still wall latching for longer than a few seconds other than when running Proton set mods or to complete specific riven challenges? Loki's passive by itself does not incentivize wall latching and really does not add anything to his kit.

Suggestions: I have two ideas for Loki's passive. The first is to simply update it with additional bonuses that incentivize wall maneuvers:

Loki can wall latch for an extended period. While wall latching or wall hopping, gain a buff that regenerates 4 energy/s for each second spent latching or hopping, up to 5s maximum.

This would be more of a simple change that would make Loki's passive more useful without reworking it entirely.

My second idea however is to completely change his passive into something that allows Loki to capitalize on deceit and distraction:

For each enemy up to 10 actively focused on a target besides Loki within affinity range, gain 2.5% increased critical chance on all weapons, additive after mods. Enemies can be alert as long as they are not directly focusing on Loki, but they must be actively engaging a target. If they are unaware and simply roaming, Loki does not gain a buff.

This passive would incentivize Loki to use his decoy more actively and benefit more from having teammates draw enemy aggro. This passive would also work well with the suggestions I have below.

Decoy: Classic misdirection. A thematically fitting tool for the frame named after the God of mischief, but long overdue for some functional changes. Decoy is a simple ability that draws aggro, inflicts minor IPS procs, and can be used as an anchor for Switch Teleport, but that's just about it. In lower level missions it serves its purpose for as long as there are enemies to distract and hard to reach places to get to, but in higher level missions its usefulness is restricted to the latter because the moment you throw it out, pop goes the Decoy. It's an unfortunate circumstance where Decoy is thematically fitting but functionally under-performing.

Suggestions: Decoy shouldn't have health and shields. It's a hologram. An intangible object that shouldn't react to damage. Projectiles and melee attacks should just pass through it causing no more than a visual distortion effect. In exchange for it losing the ability to be destroyed by enemies (except nullifiers), Decoy could have its base duration reduced and its IPS procs removed as they hardly make any difference, and nobody notices them anyway. Heck, I didn't even find out it caused IPS procs until I went through his wiki page. Additionally, with the current trend of having multiple abilities in one (Gauss' 3, Vauban's 4, Xaku's 3), I think Decoy could be combined with Switch Teleport and rebranded into Deception. This will open up his third ability slot for something new and fresh while simultaneously fixing the glaring flaw of decoy being useless at higher levels and packing more functionality into it. It will also give players a reason to helminth infuse Loki's ability over Molt (which is objectively superior at the moment) into other frames.

Deception: Tap 1 to create an invulnerable holographic decoy at target location that taunts enemies into attacking it. Hold 1 to swap locations with target character (friend or foe). If no target is selected and a decoy is currently active, holding 1 will cause Loki to swap positions with the decoy.

Regarding his Augments for both 1 and 3, I think they could be combined as well. Savior Decoy and Safeguard Switch could be made into one mod with the following properties (at max rank):

Deceptive Guard: Swapping positions with an ally grants invulnerability to them for 6s. If a decoy is active and Loki takes fatal damage, the decoy absorbs the damage, swaps positions, and grants him the same invulnerability (60s cooldown on self-swap and self-invulnerability).

Combining the two augments into one should fix the issue with Savior Decoy teleporting you from one bad spot into another if you didn't place the decoy in some obscure location. By providing invulnerability on the self-swap, it would buy you time to safely get out and recover.

Invisibility: What can I say about this ability? It's simple, it's effective, and it's Loki's God mode button. With the right build he can go permanently invisible (minus the brief re-cast window) and run entire missions without ever being seen. It's his most used ability besides Radial Disarm and is core to his kit and identity as a trickster.

Suggestions: The base ability is already incredibly useful for basically any situation, but I think it can be made better by giving Loki synergies with his other abilities akin to Ash's Bladestorm synergy. I have the following synergies in mind:

While under the effect of Invisibility (Loki's ability and not any other invisibility effect i.e Ivara's cloak arrow), the cost of placing a decoy is reduced to 10 energy. Switch teleporting with a target extends the duration of Invisibility by 50% of the modded duration (up to 100% of modded duration).

I believe these synergies will incentivize Loki players to use Decoy and Switch TP more proactively during combat situations and not just as getting-around tools.

Switch Teleport: Also a simple ability which fits thematically but under-performs functionally. In my experience with this ability, I've hardly ever used it to swap with an enemy. The majority of the time I'm using it in conjunction with decoy to get to a specific spot or to speed up the Drone escort on the Plains. Swapping with an enemy briefly confuses them, but it only applies to the single target. In a game about shooting hordes of enemies, confusing a single target for a few seconds isn't really worth it.

Suggestions: As mentioned above, I think combining Decoy and Switch Teleport into Deception is a good option because I don't think Switch Teleport pulls its weight as a standalone ability anymore with how little it does. For a replacement third ability, here's what I have in mind:

Fool's Bomb: Loki creates an illusion over target enemy within a short range and plants a time bomb on them. The illusion causes enemies to attack the victim by making them think their ally has defected to the Tenno. The blast radius of the bomb increases the longer it remains active on the target (up to double the modded base range). When the affected target dies or the ability ends/is deactivated by pressing the ability key again, the bomb explodes, dealing no damage but blinding and inflicting ALL non-damaging status effects (impact, puncture, cold, corrosive, viral, and blast) except Radiation to enemies within range. The bomb may also be planted on an active decoy from a longer range. Only one bomb may be active at a time and the explosion does not bypass environmental obstacles/terrain and requires line of sight.

The reason I don't want to give Loki a damaging bomb is to help maintain his identity as a trickster frame. He doesn't need to start nuking rooms. Leave that to the actual nuker frames. The idea of essentially accusing an enemy of being a defector without actually changing the target enemy's allegiance (ala Nyx's Mind Control) and then inflicting them with a mess of statuses seems like a very mischievous/Loki thing to do and I feel it would fit his playstyle very well. Not to mention that not only will applying so many statuses cripple affected enemies, but also open them up to big damage from Condition Overload/Galvanized status builds (which I'm sure Loki's teammates will love him even more for). I left Radiation out of this ability to avoid making Irradiating Disarm redundant.

Radial Disarm: The OG endgame CC ability that was staple in a lot of endurance comps back in the day. Oh, how far you've fallen. Drama aside, this is still a very potent CC ability that removes enemy's guns and forces them to melee. Now a lvl 160 Bombard can still make short work of you with his tiny Sheev but at least he can't do it from 50m away with a tracking rocket that absolutely refuses to leave you alone. Aside from being ineffective against Infested (which is fine because we don't need a one-size-fits-all ability) this ability is great at setting up choke points by forcing enemies to run to you and alleviating the issue of getting blown up by a random enemy you couldn't see by removing their guns. I wouldn't actually change much about this ability's base functions as it is already very strong, but some new additions wouldn't hurt.

Suggestions: With the idea of improving teamplay (this is already a great team ability with great coverage), I wouldn't mind granting a synergy similar to Wisp's 2 and 3 where casting Radial Disarm with an active decoy would also create a pulse centered on the decoy's position, granting even wider coverage and improved zone control.

Thank you for reading my thoughts on a potential revisit for Loki! I know that Loki is by no means a bad frame. I just think he's long overdue for a little modernization. I would love hear to everybody else's thoughts on the matter. What do you think about Loki right now? What updates would you like to see?

    TL;DR

Passive suggestion 1: Gain energy regen for wall hopping/wall latching.
Passive suggestion 2: Gain additive crit chance for each distracted enemy in affinity range.

First ability suggestion: Combine decoy and switch tp into one ability. Make decoy invulnerable with reduced duration and no longer causes IPS procs.

Second ability suggestion: Add synergy with decoy and switch tp. While invisible, decoy costs less energy and using switch tp extends invisibility.

Third ability suggestion: Completely new ability. At short range, create illusion on target to make their allies think that it has defected and plant a bomb on them. Target's allegiance doesn't change but their allies will attack them. The bomb explodes when enemy dies or ability ends/is deactivated. Bomb doesn't deal damage, but blinds and causes non-damaging statuses. Can be used on decoy at longer range.

Fourth ability suggestion: Add synergy with decoy. While a decoy is active, casting radial disarm will also create a disarming pulse centered on decoy.
