Warframe Trading [PS4][RIVEN][Q] Price check? It's dear to me but I'm thinking about selling it

WARNING: These calculations may not be very accurate, as I have made assumptions and estimations to make things easier for myself. Also, it IS a free market, so plenty of people just sell at whatever price they want, which is fine, but can end up negatively impacting other people's business. (That's partly why I am doing this.)

TL:DR, you should probably buy Arcane Graces, Energizes, Barriers, Furies, Avengers, Aegis or Precision. if you want to try and turn a profit from Scarlet Spear. This is probably obvious, but if you'd like to see overthinking at it's finest, read on and see how I came to this conclusion. Also, when doing ground missions, don't bother getting 900 extra Scarlet Credits from a separate mission IF you want maximum efficiency. Unless you're solely helping the Flotilla reach 100/100, it's a waste of time. Just do 4100 and move on. Lastly, if you grind for Bronze, Silver or the other Gold Arcanes, you're basically working at less than minimum wage.

Let the rambling begin.

Earlier, I was making a list of the arcanes that I wanted to buy from Little Duck, and realised that I should probably keep some spare to sell later for platinum. This sparked my curiosity as to what the prices for arcanes were at right now. If they were too low, and didn't rise, was it worth it?

I looked at WARFRAME.MARKET and TRADE CHAT for a rough idea of what people were selling for.

Arcane Grace - 25-35p per unit

Arcane Energize - 20-30p per unit

Arcane Guardian - 7-15p per unit

Now these are just a few, but some of the most popular arcanes. For this next part, we are going to use Arcane Energize, because it was the one I saw in trade chat the most.

FIRSTLY, let's work out the best way to farm scarlet credits for ground missions. Why ground missions? Because I think they are the most consistent. Space missions depend on the railjack, the pilot, bugs, etc, and can last anywhere from 20 to 50 minutes. (Also I haven't actually played any, I got those times from region chat and youtube) I have played dozens of ground missions, and they always seem to be around 30 minutes long for all 17 condrix, and grant 4100 scarlet credits.

SO: 30 minutes = 4100sc (+8200sc if all 100/100 murex are driven away) = 12,300sc total, at a rate of 410sc per minute.

You could do another mission of 8 condrix and get another 900sc (+1800 if all 100/100 murex are driven away) = 2,700sc extra, HOWEVER, this isn't actually worth it. The extra mission takes around 15 minutes, meaning that you get a rate of 180sc per minute, which is way lower than the previous one.

Therefore, to get the fastest rate of Scarlet Credit gain via ground, you should do one full mission per flotilla (unless of course, without your help, it won't reach 100/100)

SO:

We are going to estimate that one 5/5 Arcane Energize is being sold for 525p, at a rate of 25p per unit.

One 5/5 Arcane Energize is worth 84,000 Scarlet Credits.

So, 84,000sc/12,300sc = 6.8 full ground missions. We'll round that up to 7.

7 missions x 30 minutes = 210 minutes, or 3.5 hours.

3.5 hours of a boring, repetitive, mind numbing mission. Hooray.

BUT, I suppose it is way quicker than Tridolon hunting and hoping for one of the rarest arcanes.

And, if it sells for loads of platinum, it's worth it.

525p = 3.5 hours of work. That's pretty good, right?

Then, I wondered, how much REAL money is that per hour?

The value of platinum is about 5.7 pence per unit.

525p x 5.7 = 2992 pence, or £29.92.

£29.92/ 3.5 hours = £8.50 per hour.

In the UK, the minimum wage is about £8.20 per hour.

Very nice! It's cheaper to play a game than it is to work at minimum wage in real life and then buy platinum. AND that's before prices hopefully rise.

What about Arcane Graces? They're slightly more expensive, probably because they're more useful overall.

One 5/5 Arcane Grace for 630p at a rate of 30p per unit.

^^^ looking at the previous Energize calculations, that's 3.5 hours of ground missions.

630p x 5.7 = 3591 pence, or £35.91

£35.91/3.5 hours = £10.26 per hour.

Nice. If you want to buy your tenno something cool this year, maybe now is a good opportunity.

Now, what about a 5/5 Arcane Guardian? Probably the most expensive Silver Arcane.

One 5/5 arcane guardian is worth 31,500 Scarlet Credits.

31,500sc/12,300sc = 2.5 full ground missions. We'll round that up to 3.

3 missions x 30 minutes = 90 minutes, or 1.5 hours.

I generally see people selling these at around 150p.

150p = 1.5 hours of work

150p x 5.7 = £8.55

£8.55/1.5 hours = £5.70 per hour. Maybe a bit more if you have extra Scarlet Credits, so £6?

Huh. Well that's a bit low.

All arcanes at Guardian's level are about the same or less.

By rough estimate, Arcanes like Tempo, Consequence, Warmth, etc are even lower, probably because nobody really wants them when they can get more useful stuff.

Golden Arcanes are around Guardian's level as well, with the exception of Fury, Avenger, Aegis, and precision. They go for around 15p or more (from what I can tell) which gave me an estimated rate of £9 per hour if you grind for them. That is, however, if you can find a buyer.

In conclusion, I guess that it's better to buy Arcane Graces than pretty much anything else. Next are Fury, Avenger, Aegis, and Precision, then Energize. With the Scarlet Credits prices the way they are, bronze, silver and the other gold Arcanes are not cheap enough to be very profitable. You're better off buying them with platinum you've bought or traded than wasting time waning away in those boring ground missions if you want the Arcanes themselves. Unless you genuinely love slaughtering grineer and bullying Condrix :D

Of course you could always spite DE and grind anyway because you refuse to pay them money. Judging by the state of the last 5 or so updates, I wouldn't blame you. Maybe if they start haemorrhaging money then they'll listen to the players for once.
