The Trouble with 'Challenging/Endgame' content: People think they want difficult content but they don't want it to be grindy.

    Posted: 11 Jan 2021 03:31 PM PST

Aside from the problem with endgame is people have different notions of it, there is also a problem with people wanting hard content but will complain when that it is too slow/grindy (when in actuality they aren't being efficient since the game mode is hard).

    'Challenging Content'

There is genuinely difficult content in the game right now but most players don't play it since it could be boring; long-endurance runs really can test you since if you arent careful a single shot can kill you so it really pushes your build to its limits, its the place where CC actually matters. People say it's boring and not worth it but it's genuinely difficult content which fair enough I understand it's not their cup of tea but builds for difficult content if it ever exists would look like those long-endurance run builds cutting out a decent amount of Warframes and weapons being viable, for difficult content to exist Warframes would have to be as vulnerable as we are in long endurance runs and enemies would need high enough EHP that our builds have to be pushed to its limits to accommodate for that. People say it's not engaging enough but have you ever seen a Banshee going against level 9999 enemies? you have to constantly keep an eye on your shields, be on the move, keep track of your energy and make sure Resonance+Silence is up, that is already way more thinking we typically do in a typical Warframe mission.

I personally found arbitrations refreshing with the drones since you had to adapt to it and your build had to accommodate for it but then people didn't like that. Steel Path is a place with harder enemies with some minor benefit but not a lot of players bother running it more than once since well... it's too grindy and I agree.

The problem with Player rewards and their value

I know people want more rewards for doing such content, but then I bet you that there will be complaints that the content is too grindy if rewards are locked behind it when the whole point of Warframe is to grind and farm. The community cannot complain if they can't farm content fast enough, we should accept some things can take hours and hours to get (although I admit that the reward should be worthwhile). An example of grindy content is in games like Runescape with sets like the Ketshi Outfit, or drop chances being as low as 1/1,000 for a wand or core(referring to Nex) and as you can see it can go even lower. There must exist items in the game that are grindy and rare for hard content to reasonably exist or else everyone just has it and quickly forgets about ever playing the mode.

EDIT: I am not advocating for low droprates but rather for the ability to constantly grind out the mode over and over. In particular the recent events (Scarlet Spear and Orphix Venom) are a really good solution in where you can grind out currency and rewards you for staying longer.

Rare items even if useless or minor should exist, the value comes from it being rare and having bragging rights despite it not being necessary. Arcanes were a step in this direction but they are too valuable and build-breaking. I genuinely believe something as weird as the Peculiar mods or Ephemeras should be extremely rare so that when we do see it we know that it's either a lucky drop or someone putting A LOT of time into the system.

EDIT: As an example to my point take this:

John Prodman is a good example of a challenge test, but I would argue that once you got one poster there isn't much of a reason to run it again. Now imagine if you can summon John Prodman spectre and you keep this item forever but its a 1/100 drop chance or since I am not the biggest fan of drop chance, say you need to fight Prodman 100 times, sure it will be grindy and it will take a lot of time but the point is if the novel fun item exists then there will be a group of people that will run the mission over and over just to get it cause you get to summon John Prodman and isn't that just fun to have?

tl;dr We as a community should understand that it's ok to not get something in one weekend if we genuinely want endgame content.

Tap/Hold Ability QOL should also be applied to Weapons.

    Posted: 11 Jan 2021 07:14 AM PST

I'm currently a Controller user for Warframe excitedly awaiting this change to hit us when Lavos drops on Consoles, but I can't help but wish they applied this elsewhere.

Inconsistency with Abilities has bugged me for years playing Warfrane, but not as much as the fact that it exists on weapons as well.

Just a few examples using the Wiki page as reference,

    • Argonak, Cernos Prime, Kuva Hind, Zarr, etc. all have "Toggled" Alt-fire modes.

    • Euphona, Basmu, Panthera, Corinth, Bubonico, etc. all use the Alt-fire button to shoot.

By default "Alternate Fire" is tied to clicking in the Right Stick which is used to aim. For Weapons that "toggle" it feels fine, but for Weapons that use it for every single shot it feels horrible. You can argue that button-remapping would fix the issue, but I'd rather not set-up a controller config purely for a handful of Weapons in a single game I play.

Adding a setting for each Weapon with an applicable Alt-fire is probably a lot more work than it took to add this setting to Abilities, but it would be a huge QOL improvement as well.

Performance tip for those with stuttering issues since Orphix updates

    Posted: 11 Jan 2021 12:57 PM PST

I have been seeing massive stuttering issues at the start of every mission since the first Orphix Venom patch landed. No combination of drivers, settings or running from HDD, SSD, or RAM drive fixed it.

Yesterday, I managed to fix it and wanted to share for anyone in a similar boat. This fix has also worked for a few guys in my clan.

    For NVidia Users

    1. Close all applications that you can, especially anything using advanced graphics.
    2. Go to c:\programdata\NVidia Corporation\NV_Cache and delete everything from it.
    3. Reboot is not required. Relaunch WF.
    4. You may see a little slowdown as it rebuilds shaders the first time. After 20 seconds or so, it should be just as fast as it used to be.

    UPDATE: For AMD Users

Please see this comment for an image showing how to clear the cache.

Possible root cause of this issue

On closer inspection, there appears to be cache hash collisions that are leading to this problem. I've already reached out to NVidia support to get them more info in case more people see it.

I hope this helps some of you with the same problem. Have a good day, Tenno.

Please unlock all frames and weapons in the simulacrum.

    Posted: 11 Jan 2021 09:09 PM PST

The simulacrum is a training room, right? In other video games, this would entail being able to try out every character/weapon in order to determine whether it fits you and whether or not you should invest your time into getting that particular character/weapon. The simulacrum is, without weapon/frame trials, basically just a data cloning facility that can be substituted by doing a single crossfire mission on Lua. So, DE, please let us use every frame and weapon in the simulacrum, not only so that we can find a weapon or frame that really suits us, but also so that we can find out whether we should invest the time and resources to farm and build that particular frame or weapon.

Minor hint for rent-a-mech reliant Tenno in Orphix Venom

    Posted: 11 Jan 2021 02:53 PM PST

It takes the unmodded Mausolon a bit to destroy resonators. But if you're close enough you can destroy them in one hit with a heavy slam.

    https://reddit.com/link/kvebpf/video/zofqd49b8sa61/player

Yes, this has been said before but contained in longer posts. Have to go rent-a-mech myself. Some other Tenno are that good that helping kill resonators quickly is the only thing I can offer to be worthwhile being dragged along. Every bit counts :)

Has anyone suggested having custom dialog for equipping different warframes?

    Posted: 11 Jan 2021 11:38 AM PST

So like how every so often your character will chime in saying something like "My warframe is strong" I always thought it would be interesting to have specific dialog unique to specific warframes.

Say if you equip Equinox, your character could say "I keep the balance" instead of the usual "My warframe is strong"

Just a suggestion I've had for months

Is anyone else seriously impressed with Gauss?

    Posted: 11 Jan 2021 05:29 AM PST

I've been self isolating this week after my sister's test came back positive, and therefore I had a lot of time to get back into warframe and decided to pick up Gauss. Holy crap. He's just so much fun! I don't think I've ever played a character in any game that does super-speed so well! The sound design is immaculate, and I'm very much a fan of his visual design, I especially like frames whose appearance gets altered from abilities. Plus, he can be super tanky, which is exactly the type of frame I've gravitated towards in the past like Nidus or Wukong. Just thought no-one in videos on YT really talks about how good it feels to use him

    Good Weapons for Mirage?

    Posted: 11 Jan 2021 06:28 PM PST

Hey there! I have finally discovered the wonder that is Mirage Prime and her Hall of Mirrors/Eclipse combo. What are some recommendations for primaries and secondaries that work well with Hall of Mirrors?

I'm currently eyeing the Acceltra and Akarius, any others I should check out?

Weird dungeon/raid idea thing I just came up with.

    Posted: 11 Jan 2021 11:12 PM PST

It's midnight right now and I'm tired as fuck but hear me out, okay?

A 1-4 player raid style mission based on the leverian entries.

The Leverian guy will tell you after donating enough money to his exhibit "Hey I've been working on something, wanna see this shit it's really cool" and basically he shows you some spot in the weave, where using all of his information he's managed to construct a play-by-play event of the story in mission form.

There can be bosses and puzzles and all types of shit, all built upon the environments described in the Leverians stories.

At the end you're rewarded with an emote showing off the Prex card on 1st completion, and repeat runs will offer cosmetics, mod sets, and weapon pieces.

HOWEVER, since some parts of the stories or environments aren't all that complete, the hardest secrets in the mission are hidden as flaws in geometry, making you actively look for parts that look off or can be walked/glitched through. Some of these can be hiding rare cosmetics or a weapon, but 4 of these (which are like super duper well hidden) will be to assemble together the warframe shown in the leverian, and you'll have to solve a puzzle to complete it. If you do all these warframe secret spot puzzles in one run, you fight against the warframe in a really cool fight, and by beating them you're rewarded with an ephemera, a skin for that frame, and glyph or something.

Idk I thought it sounded cool. I need sleep
