Weekly reminder/request to remove copernics and pulstrels from mining

    Posted: 09 Jun 2020 09:43 PM PDT

Please DE, just take em away. Put them on another planet ffs. I went mining for an hour yesterday and my pulstrels were double that of any other resource. If you're really incessant on keeping them in the Open Worlds then quarter the drop chance but double or triple their amount (it's already super quick to get them in the open worlds, not to mention public Railjack missions). It's so... disappointing to get pulstrels or copernics when you're looking for something else

The mess that is The New Player Experience

    Posted: 09 Jun 2020 10:18 AM PDT

Whenever the new "New Player Experience" will become a thing, it's no doubt that it has to be better than what we have now, albeit some main issues that this game has, including how it makes new players feel overwhelmed with all this information at hand and how its story while convoluted, has too many inconsistencies when it comes to how certain events are laid out in the quests. Although, those are some issues that have to be addressed at hand, there are others as well that need as much attention as they do. If you want a more comprehensive first hand look, u/emeraldarcana has a post on his experience with the new player experience.

    Lore
When it comes to telling a story, there are some things that must be taken into account when it involves the lore of a story. For me, a story has to have an interesting plot, characters to take interest in, not janky to where the story will be boring, and among other things. Two things that I take a closer look into is how the lore has to make sense with how it's story is laid out and that it shouldn't contradict itself when other things are added/changed just because. This is basically like adding a DLC to a game's story, but the only problem with that game's story has ended to begin with.As for the Warframe's story and lore. It's not good, in terms of how it's structured. One redditor seemed to describe it to the likes of "The story's very VERY scattered and pretty much absent till you do the Natah quest, which I think opens up when you reach Uranus, and is not a short walk from the start." To show you that, here are the quests and events in chronological order.

    1. Vor's Prize
    2. Saya's Vigil (Optional)
    3. Vox Solaris (Optional)
    4. Once Awake
    5. Howl of the Kubrow (Optional)

    7. Stolen Dreams
    8. The Limbo Theorem (Optional)

    11. A Man of Few Words (Optional)
    12. Operation: Ambulas Reborn
    13. Hidden Messages (Optional)
    14. Operation: Rathuum
    15. Patient Zero (Optional)
    16. The Jordas Precept (Optional)
    17. Operation: Tubemen of Regor
    18. Natah
    19. The Second Dream
    20. Operation: Shadow Debt
    21. Sands of Inaros (Optional)

This event is no longer available. textThis event will come back multiple times. text(Only includes events that relate to the main story)

With a game like this, it has a habit of leaving out info/story bits for new players to read upon. So, unless they want to learn about a certain character or an event, they'd have to either watch a video or read the wiki about that. This would be like if you were reading a book series, but you were reading it in a random order rather than chronologically. From how the quests are laid out, it's made in a way that somehow incentives you to just cheese your way through the entire Star Chart just to complete it without a second thought. As for how the story gets convoluted, I think to say that this example is one of the more better to represent this. That being Alad V's multiple storylines.

His timelines are more split than someone that has DID. To most new players, he would just be some guy with a robot dog that you have to kill in order to get to Jupiter, but it's much more than that and they don't take the time to get familiar with him. It's so scattered and inconsistent to the point where you would have to get the wiki up and search the lore of this person and see what significance he has to the story once you get to The Second Dream. For instance, the topic of whether he was canonically dead or not. The thing is, Alad was never canonically dead. The confusion came with The Second Dream, which has him return without requiring the player to do Eris. During the Eris story, we see that Alad never died, but ran away, and used the Infestation on himself and his proxies and became the Mutualists. There was later an event, which was Operation: Tubemen of Regor where we helped Alad heal himself of the Infestation, but that story never made its way into the game after the event ended. And then The Second Dream takes place after this event, which is why he's cured, and by this point, you're supposed to know that Alad is still alive, but a lot of people don't do Eris before TSD and most people never did Tubemen of Regor.

So there's no clear in-game distinction of how and when Mutalist Alad V happened. But the lore was there at some point, and it's always been pretty clear what happened if you have read the lore. When it comes to his relationship with the Tenno, it was sort of complicated. It went hostile with Alad V and Zanuka, then Mutalist Alad V, then Tubemen of Regor which became friendly, then The Second Dream, then Amalgam Alad V until he was hostile again. As of now, he has not been un-Amalgamed, so Amalgam Alad V is the current version of him in the lore. It's no wonder why Alad helps us in The Second Dream out of the blue after we defeat him in Themisto. It also doesn't help how we see him scarred from infesting himself during that point without context.

    Events
As mentioned before, when it comes to lore, it has to make sense with how it's story is laid out and that it shouldn't contradict itself when other things are added/changed just because. The latter being subjective. In the case of Warframe, it is nice for events to have tid bits of lore sprinkled over them just to appease the story fanatics and those who might not know all of the story but gets an understanding of what it's all about. The issue with that being how most of the time, these events only come once with some rare exceptions. As with the case of Alad V, considering that these events happened 6-7 years ago, there would be no way for new players to experience them unless out of the blue, DE decides to bring them back, but I doubt that will be the case for reasons they stated before.

One of the more serious offenders to this is Scarlet Spear.

When it comes to the gameplay, it's downright tedious. This event was designed in a way that was meant to be played by veterans with min-maxed builds that play the game every day of every hour. Let me remind you. This was designed to where frames like Limbo, Gara, Mesa, and maybe Umbra were needed to do the same Mobile Defense mission, but on 2 different tilesets multiple times, just for some Arcanes. Not to mention, how buggy both, the event and the scoring that was used for both, ground and space missions were. Let not also forget the knee-jerk nerfs to frames like Limbo and Khora (Only reverting Khora's), and among other things. With that out of the way, the "story" for this event is already kind of incoherent. The thing I don't understand with this is that in the New War trailer, the Condrixes were dropping onto the Plains, yet in the actual event, it's in the Grineer Forest tileset, more specifically Earth. So, why do it here than in the Plains instead. Another thing would be how the event was available to those who are MR3, which, in my opinion, is too early for them to access considering that at the start, it introduces them to Little Duck too early for them to know who she is and how she has a place in this event. Because of that, you have situations like these. Let me remind you. This event is available to those who are MR3.

    Quests
With how the quests are right now, there are some issues that I and some take with them. One of them being the optional quests. Some of them being Vox Solaris and Saya's Vigil and Stolen Dreams. For the 1st two, it seems like they were shown/displayed in the way that this was something that was meant to be completed alongside the main quests early on rather than later. For Vox Solaris, it seems stupid to have this quest be shown way too early considering that Fortuna/Orb Vallis seem like "endgame" (but really, there's nothing that's truly endgame) since they were added recently than Cetus/Plains of Eidolons. As for someone that started in 2018, it felt kind of hollow to have this open world be thrown into our faces this early when something like this, as mentioned earlier, is something that only those who are very familiar to the game are for. Saya's Vigil on the other hand, It also doesn't help that our first encounter with Sentients are done way too early, more specifically with an Eidolon. As for Stolen Dreams, Maroo is introduced in this quest, but the problem with that is that if you unlock Mars before the quest, you can actually meet her early on in Maroo's Bazaar. So from how I see it, the node for it should be locked off until you complete the quest to meet her.

The other problem I see with how quests are is that when DE brings in new characters, they'll just forget about them in the next quest released, which can make them at times criminally underrated with how little relevance they get within the lore of Warframe. One example of this is with Dr. Tengus, who is responsible for the return of the Infestation in the inner Origin System, the creation of the Grustrag Three, and the cybernetic body of Councilor Vay Hek. The only ways he is mentioned are either through transmissions in Once Awake, the Codex for the Grustrag Three, specifically for both, Leekter and Vem Tabook, and the webcomics. And how about The Sergeant as well? As many times as we kill him, all that we see from him is that he's just a Sniper Crewman, disguised as a boss.

    Pay-To-Win
As a Free-To-Play game, there will be some skepticism as to whether it's actually Pay-To-Win or not. It's not. It's pay to get stuff quick but everything can be earned by grinding the game out. It is a stretch to say that Primes, specifically Prime Warframes have a "strict competitive advantage" when they're the same frames as their regular variants, but with some slight adjustments to their stats and a body/texture overhaul as well as having methods present to obtain the parts for these primes. That would be like saying how you're going to cheat in Warframe with wall-hacks, aimbot, and damage buffs. The only issue with that is that it's useless considering that you have frames like Mesa, Wukong and Chroma while for weapons, you have those like the Argonak and the Zenith. Damage hacks are more of a joke, partially when it comes to shields since before, you could have Shield Disruption be past 100% with a squad and Coalition Drift to the point where any insane amount of damage you could do on an enemy would become -damage that actually heals them instead. In the end, what do you get from cheating in a game like this? Although this is kind of taboo, the only way you could consider "Pay-To-Win" to be relevant is when it comes to the boosters for things such as mod chance, affinity, resource drop, and resource drop chance. But then again, they're still obtainable by just playing the game

    Gameplay
When it comes to playing the game itself, what I see with this is how it's punishing to new players considering that they don't know how the game functions as well as what they have to do to progress which has them looking to either content creators, friends who play Warframe, or even the Wiki at all times just to understand the fundamentals of the game itself. Another thing that I personally have an issue with is when new players look to content creators for builds. (Note: This is not to bash those who make content focused around build videos. This is a critique of the type of builds that focus heavily on the most damage possible.)

When making builds, the consensus that I see now are "You have to build to get the most damage. You have to have viral as your main damage type. If you don't have red crits, then you ain't doing damage!!" Even though I have flocked to that trend before [and now, ironically], it's still stupid that whenever I see a build for the most amount of damage possible, I always see either Serration, Split Chamber, Point Strike and any dual stat mods thrown in there. With this kind of build, sure you can do damage to the enemy, but what would you gain from that if that build is the same for others? There's little to no variety when it comes to this. They turn to content creators who say "Oh, this is the best, do this" and then they just drone on to get that. There is no experimental process, no trial and error of what feels fun even if it's not the absolute best or even viable. You don't always need to build the best loadouts to have fun. Hell, try something asinine just for the fun of it if you want. It's not just about grinding for the mods you need to complete someone else's perfect build. Hell, most people just buy the mods and slap them in and then farm ONE tileset into the ground. The tutorial seems to be somehow dumbed down as well.

Another thing that comes to fruition is where you go to level. As of this writing, the go to places to level equipment is either Mot, (Elite) Sanctuary Onslaught, and Hydron. This is somewhat decisive considering these are the only places that yield high amounts of affinity if you do either 20 waves in Defense or an hour or 2 in Survival. I could touch on this topic, but considering that this is getting looked at with (Ultra) Hard mode coming soon again, as of the writing of this piece, I'd rather leave it here. What I can't leave is when it comes to Warframes themselves.

They're easy to get, but the problem is that there are frames that somehow have absurd material requirements. One example of this is Rhino. Even though he's considered to be the "first" Warframe that's easy to get, the problem arises when you see that one of the materials required to build him is on a planet that would take 10 hours to get there. The same story is said when it comes to Oberon. Although you can get his parts easily, even by accident, you still need Control Modules, which drops in the Void, which is farther than even Phobos itself.

    Tutorial
From how I see it, the game has an issue with telling you what is this and that, but it doesn't go out of its way to go more into depth into what this and that is. This game also has a problem with catering to new players as it's going for the casual audience, but sometimes, their first impressions are ruined as soon as they think they hit a wall they think they can't progress or when it comes to the realization that this game may be too sophisticated for them to understand. They tried to have Ordis be the "mentor" in this, but he just falls short with how little voice lines he has to help guide the new players through the game. The game tells what enemies take bonus damage from what damage type, but you have to go through 5 pages just to get to that, which most of the time, new players don't know where to look for. The game shows you Platinum and what it is, but it doesn't tell you what it's used for and how you can get more of it, like how you can trade things to get it. The game shows what Endo is, but it doesn't explain what other ways you can get it. The game shows you what mods are, but that's martyred by how much information is presented to you at times, such as status/critical change, follow/punch-through, range, etc.

Vor's Prize has been the quest to start things off considering that it has all the basics to begin with such as how to aim, shoot, crouch, and slide. What it doesn't help explain is how to bullet jump, crouch slide, and the fact that you're melee is stronger than your guns. The only thing that the game overlooks is the concept of stealth. The fact that we're "Space Ninjas" yet we mow down hordes of enemies with a key/button press really speaks to how stealth doesn't have a place in most of the game's content, apart from missions like Rescue (to an extent), Spy, and Affinity farming.

One thing that sort of irks me is that after the 1st Spy mission in Vor's Prize, it has you install the second segment, which is where you would go to the Market, and that's something I have a problem with that since earlier, I mentioned how new players wouldn't understand what/how Platinum is used for yet to where they might go and spend it recklessly while thinking "How do I get more Platinum?", which is where they'd go to the Market and see other things that have Platinum and think that it's Pay-To-Win since they can't think to see below the option to buy that item in Platinum is the option to buy the blueprint with credits to which you use resources to make the weapon.

    Solutions
As far as I know, you can't fix everything a game has issues with. The only thing you can do is to try and improve those issues as best as you can. These are some solutions:
(Note: These are personal preferences. {As for the new quest order, that goes to u/MorteNexus**} You are free to disagree with them and provide reasoning while suggesting your own suggestions to me.**)

    Quests & Lore:

    • Rework Vor's Prize.
      • Maybe start off inside the temple from the TennoCon 2019 Cinematic trailer.
    • Introduce Darvo (and Clem even) properly.
      • Have alerts such as A Favor for Darvo and Ties that Bind be available after you do Vor's Prize
    • Give directions (not Waypoints) to where the player has to go (Assuming that junctions remain the same order).
      • Have them go in the chronological order of quests laid out instead of them going around the Star Chart braindead counter-clockwise
      • Get rid of formatting quests in 3x3 and have be set in a linear timeline with miniquests branching off
    • Give info on the planets as the player goes through it
      • Since Lua is portrayed to be an old base for the Orokin before in the past as well as a haven for Operators to hide out in, maybe also provide how Eris came to be when it comes to the Infested (Infested Alad V)
    • Introduce the boss of each planet, even Phorid
      • We all bash on The Sergeant, but we at least need to know about him more
    • Address open worlds (Should they be open for newbies or not?)
      • Either have them be open when all main quests are finished or have parts of Plains of Eidolon/Orb Vallis be implemented in these quests
    • Properly introduce the mission types as the player encounters them without lore (Assuming the new tutorial quest doesn't go through all mission types)
    • Address Mars' and Jupiter's lore conflicts

    Events:

    • Have events only be available until quests that take place in the setting of the event are completed
      • Example: Complete Erra in order to access Scarlet Spear
    • Possibly extend how long events will be in the context of new players so that FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) is seen as a minor problem.
      • In order to not make things feel difficult and to not feel left out, have the content, such as difficulty, requirements and among other things scale based on how levels are normally based on Mastery Rank (MR0-3: Lvl1-20)

    Gameplay:

    • (Debatable) Gate content due to how difficult it will be/how much grinding would have to be done.
      • Someone that's MR1-3 shouldn't go for something like a Kuva Chakkurr that their lich has if the weapon itself can't be useable until MR13 or MR15.
    • Get rid of "mandatory mods" (Serration, Split Chamber, Point Strike, etc.) so that more diverse builds can be introduced into the mix
      • Maybe infuse "mandatory mods" into a weapon of your choice so that the stats are applied to the weapon itself rather as a bonus.

    Tutorial:

    • (Again) Rework Vor's Prize
    • Hide Platinum in general until they get to MR3-5 until they understand how Platinum works and only show the prices in credits.
    • Give Ordis more lines to explain to the player what is and what's what. (Don't have give vague explanations/details)
      • Have him go in depth to what the Codex is and what you can use it for.
      • (Contradictory) Have him explain the difference between both, Credits and Platinum while also explaining how you can get more instead of buying it
    • Get rid of pages for topics such as Damage and Mods and have all the information be in one slide so that all information is present to that specific topic

And most importantly, rework/reorder the quests in chronological order and "gate" players so that they don't jump through the entire Star Chart in a wild manner.

My hope for New War that probably won't come to fruition

    Posted: 09 Jun 2020 09:04 PM PDT

This is my hope for New War. Honestly, I was hoping we'd get it for Scarlet Spear but we didn't. In a trailer, DE showed Erra attacking the Plains of Eidolon. I hope, when Erra does invade, that the sentients invade everything. Pluto, the Void, Ceres, Phobos, Fortuna, Orb Vallis, Plains of Eidolons, Cetus...everything. And we have to fight them off, but before that imagine this scenario:

We're doing a random mission and we get a video message from Ordis telling us he is receiving messages. He tells us to carry on while he analyzes. He intermittently talks to himself about what he's reading, just vague stuff, nothing concrete. He tells us to hurry up so we can get back to the ship. He is interrupted by Tenshin (because we should ALWAYS start with Tenshin when it comes to fighting the Sentients, I'm looking at you Scarlet Spear) who advises us to do the same. He tells us it's time to go to war again. We complete the mission. In the loading screen, Ordis is getting anxious and tense. Once on the ship, we get messages from all sides. It's a build up, start with Little Duck telling us she's hearing chatter...and then it begins.

Konzu calls. Begging for help. The Sentients are invading and killing.
Little Duck calls. Begging for help. The Sentients are invading and killing.
Onko is calling for help. The Sentients are invading.
Syndicates left and right are calling. Begging for help. The Sentients are invading and killing.
The Grineer are calling. They're exasperated and begging for help. The Sentients are invading and slaughtering them.
The Corpus are calling. Alad V set them up. They're exasperated and begging for help. The Sentients are invading and slaughtering them.
(maybe) Lephantis calls us or sends us mail. The Sentient are invading and they're chomping at the bit to fight them.

For an example of what I mean, I present this clip from the show Doctor Who. What follows from the 2:01 section onwards with Martha Jones. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4h8NmjpiY1M Listen to the messages that are being received. The exasperation, the fear...

That is my hope for what we get when the Sentients invade. All these voices, friends and enemies, crying out for help only for all the messages to get cut. All replaced by...a video of Ballas taunting and mocking us. Our Tennos order Ordis to cut the feed. We go to navigation and everything is being invaded. Pick a color for the Sentients (can't pick red unfortunately because that's the color for Liches), and this color, say green, is spread across all planets and the void. They're everywhere and we, as in all players, have to work together to defeat them. Teshin contacts us again. We see his ship pull up in front of ours and he joins us for missions. It's full on war.

Just my thought on what a sentient invasion would look like.
