    How To Melee: 101

    I see a lot of people struggling to understand how modding works. So this is a post to help others understand the whats and whys of modding a melee.

    These builds follow melees with a slash based weapon of choice, for example, the Kronen Prime. Kronen Prime has a 80% slash bias, with 21.2 impact damage, 21.2 puncture damage, and 169.6 slash damage.

    There are going to be a few mods which are present throughout every build.

    • Primed Smites: Faction mods double dip on status effects, giving double the effect of a single status effect. For example, on a slash proc, the initial proc is multiplied by the smite mod. On DoT (Damage over time) they scale according to the hit that proc the dot, which has the bane factored in. When the DoT itself does damage, it factored the bane a second time, which gives us another huge boost.
    • Condition Overload: With a primer, Condition Overload gives us a much bigger damage boost than any other damage mod in the game. Condition Overload gives us +80% melee damage per status type affecting the target. There is no cap to how many status effects this works on.
    • Blood Rush and Weeping Wounds: These are essential to any hybrid combo based melee. As your combo multiplier goes up, so does your crit chance and status chance. See the chart in the wiki to see how it ramps up. Status chance is there so that you proc slash against enemies, which deals True Damage. Crit chance, is pretty basic, and I'm sure most of you understand why we need it.

    A primer is any piece of gear used to prep enemies for a swift kill. It includes guns, sentinel weapons and certain pets such as panzer to put a large amount of status effects on enemies very quickly, for example, the Kuva Nukor. The Kuva Nukor can proc an invisible status effect called Microwave that causes the part of the enemy hit to become larger. With innate radiation, microwave, and and a progenitor bonus (preferably magnetic), we get a 240 (3*80) damage bonus to our weapon. HOWEVER, if we add on more elements using modding, we can get up to 5 different elements, viral (mods), heat (mods), radiation (innate), magnetic (progenitor bonus), and microwave (which is hidden). This gives us 400% damage bonus, much more than Primed Pressure Point can. With a build like this, you can get 10 stacks of viral within a few seconds.

    A typical hybrid combo count e spam melee weapon build would look like this. I have explained why faction mods, condition overload, blood rush, and weeping wounds are on there. Organ shatter and primed reach are self explainable, more crit damage and range, obviously. Now, some weapons have a higher attack speed than others. However, for more damage (albeit a bit more clunky), you'll want to use Gladiator Might. This chart shows what to use for the two other slots that are open, depending on how fast the attack speed of the melee is.

    Corpus have shields that will take too long to use with just viral slash. In this case, we use toxin, to bypass the shields entirely. Toxin procs do toxin damage both the raw damage and the proc bypass shields. Build is linked here. Same with the previous build, however. If you have a high attack speed, use berserker fury, if a low attack speed, use primed fury.

    Finally, we have our heavy attack build. This build was put on a glaive, however to use it for normal melee weapons, change volatile quick return (makes the explosion bigger) and power throw (consecutive throws) out for primed reach and again, either berserker fury or primed fury. Corrupt charge is used on this, as our combo multiplier affects the damage of the heavy attacks. Corrupt Charge r2 is just enough to get us to 2x multiplier.
